Battle report to figure it all out...Sup<br />
<br />
<h2>
Does 8th still exist?</h2>
One of the curious things I've observed post 8th on Twitter, forums and the like is this vibe that now GW doesn't support WHFB, the game isn't really worth playing and was/is a horrible mess that needs to be completely overhauled to even consider playing it. Efforts to re-vamp the game and make all the (as official as they get) tournament FAQ's part of the "real" rules (8.5, 9th age, or whatever) are under haste to make the game playable and give it longevity.<br />
<br />
However, in a weird kinda way, GW was always right about one thing: the gamers are the ones who make it a game. Age of S(h)i(t)gmar takes this to an extreme that is beyond my personal preference (style and mechanics wise), but the wealth of comp packs and unofficial/official house rules have always existed (to the frustration of the purists who want GW to pass down from on high a water tight rule set, carved in stone etc) and thanks to the internet/experience they still exist.<br />
<br />
Anywho, what I'm getting at, is that 8th still exists, and last time I checked, it is still fun to play with mates, and possibly even in a tournament like fashion.<br />
<br />
So to that end....<br />
<br />
<h2>
3000 points EMPIRE vs TOMB KINGS</h2>
Ben sent me a txt "wanna game?" I said "sure - tonight?" he replied "3000pts, I'm using Tomb Kings".<br />
<br />
In that little exchange 2 things happened:<br />
<br />
1) A game was arranged the traditional way of the modern era using an old, out of date, unsupported by GW rule set that is still fun to play; and<br />
2) I was misled as to the power level of the game.<br />
<br />
So I cranked up my Quartermaster app (gathering dust now we're post 8th) and whipped up a list. <br />
<br />
I rocked up with:<br />
<br />
Arch Lector: Waralter, charmed shield, Heavy Armour, Great Weapon, 4+ ward<br />
lvl4: light, 5+ ward, dispel scroll<br />
lvl1: light<br />
lvl1: light<br />
BSB: Fullplate armour, enchanted shield<br />
engineer<br />
engineer<br />
40 Halberds: Full Command<br />
40 Halberds: Full Command<br />
5 Knights: Musician, Unit Champ<br />
10 Archers<br />
4 Demis: Musician<br />
40 Great Swords: Full Command<br />
Cannon<br />
Cannon<br />
Helblaster<br />
Helblaster<br />
Hurricanum<br />
<br />
And found myself playing against:<br />
<br />
Tomb King: Chariot, 4+ ward, Great Weapon, (armour save stuff)<br />
lvl4: tombking lore<br />
lvl4: light<br />
lvl1: light<br />
lvl1: light<br />
(feedback scroll, dispel scroll on the mages)<br />
BSB: Chariot, Great Weapon, (armour save stuff)<br />
7 Chariots: Full Command - re-roll charge banner<br />
30 archers: Full command<br />
16 archers: Full command<br />
Warsphinx - breath<br />
Warsphinx - breath<br />
casket<br />
hierotitan<br />
4 Morghiest - halberds<br />
<br />
We (I) rolled up Battle of the Pass and I panicked and checked that 120 infantry and 4 demis would actually be able to deploy width ways.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-LVSfXEqY7Mk/Vc8_q1ieiSI/AAAAAAAAECM/NgeW4Kv1IHc/s1600/1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-LVSfXEqY7Mk/Vc8_q1ieiSI/AAAAAAAAECM/NgeW4Kv1IHc/s320/1.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">40 Zombies representing 40 Hallberds...they've died enough times over the years.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<b>Things of note:</b> casket behind the light holder thing, I actually managed to deploy my army across the board, and I resisted the urge to castle up in the corner and watch the Tomb Kings walk towards me.<br />
<br />
The Tomb Kings went first and casually casketed off a cannon and 2 zombies died (again) to shooting. In return my army didn't move (GUNLINE!!!!!!!!!!!!). Banishment blew up some chariots, 1 helblaster took them down to the unit champ, and the other rolled triple missfire and did 3 wounds to morghiests (first time I've ever rolled this...kept the result like a boss). Surviving Cannon misfired trying to kill the casket.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-T9MgxoL55l0/Vc9DKO_lPCI/AAAAAAAAECY/M4dfhR7ULyA/s1600/2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-T9MgxoL55l0/Vc9DKO_lPCI/AAAAAAAAECY/M4dfhR7ULyA/s320/2.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Things looking good for the time being...</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
The Tomb Kings continued to slowly move forward and I started my turn 2 down this much artillery...<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pDyN7qPKo2w/Vc9Dmn36ZhI/AAAAAAAAECg/7apd3PMW2uk/s1600/3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pDyN7qPKo2w/Vc9Dmn36ZhI/AAAAAAAAECg/7apd3PMW2uk/s320/3.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">yeah who needs all that artillery goodness anyway when you have <strike>120 </strike>118 infantry</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
So as the fluffy Empire player I am, I responded in the only way I know how: march stuff forward 8 inches, charge Demi's off into the distance to die a glorious death/win the game single handed, and use Knights as chaff.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Vk1q3mwhmm8/Vc9EnI_I07I/AAAAAAAAECs/iT1IoUFTQgo/s1600/4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Vk1q3mwhmm8/Vc9EnI_I07I/AAAAAAAAECs/iT1IoUFTQgo/s320/4.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Pro Hurricanum placement right there</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
My battle line was set: the warkittys didn't have much choice - either double charge Great Swords and get sandwiched, or split up and hope for the best. Magic is scrolled, but the helblaster does 2 wounds to a warkitty. Demi's A) lose a model from the forest, b) get poison attacks, and c) actually win combat!<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">yeah winning combat and stuff</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
But of course it can't all go my way. I let through a casket on the war alter (saving dice for banishment - which I stop). BSB in range, ldship 9. I roll a 13...and then re-roll to a 14 (AVERAGE IS 11 ON 3 DICE GRRRRRRRR). All allocate onto the alter (oh no...) and I fail 4 ward saves. 1 billion s3 shots later and the arch lector is dead (had taken 2 wounds the turn before from banishment) and the war alter dies to costing me hatred against the warkittys who had thundered into combat.<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">In Age of Sigmar this wouldn't be too bad a dead pile. No where near 50% casualties...</td></tr>

Stuff happens and I hold combats and then the counter attack begins at ws10, I10 with +1 to hit!!!<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Gotta love it when you feel a decisive moment is in the air...</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Flanked kitty dies a horrible death, but crucially manages to skewer my BSB who can't pass armour saves. The Halberds then (naturally) fail the overrun test and the stranded unit (now general-less and BSB-less thanks to some horrible rolling my me) panic, and also panic my mage bunker.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Oh yeah, Demis die and Great Swords now trapped</td></tr>

Rolled FTW...and failed. BUT THERE IS HOPE as the Morghiests fell into my carefully laid trap and (foolishly) charge my Halberds<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ip-jYezKI6A/Vc9IOG2Q6hI/AAAAAAAAEDc/Gxfyy5X8vdk/s1600/9.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ip-jYezKI6A/Vc9IOG2Q6hI/AAAAAAAAEDc/Gxfyy5X8vdk/s320/9.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Great Swords waiting patiently</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
How foolish you ask? Well, first of all, I may suck a 4+ wards and rolling under the average on 3d6, but I am the undisputed king of ldship 7 tests ESPECIALLY when my units are getting wailed on by a much superior opponent and there is no BSB. Heck the fact that my lvl 0 dispel phase resulted in the chariots effectively coming back to full strength, and the morghiests getting loads of unnecessary buffs actually made it easier to hold on for a whole extra round of combat. Also the warkitty died to awesome Helblaster awesomeness.<br />
<br />
The trap was sprung perfectly...my 5 knights all died to s5 impact hits (sigh) and the chariots rear charged the halberds...<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Ben realised a little too late what he had walked into</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
In charge the Great Swords...boosted by the hurricanum that smashed into the Tomb King points bunker as well<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">All I need to do now is roll lots of 3+ followed by lots of 3+</td></tr>

So after rolling plenty of 1' and 2's I won combat...but BSB + Morghiests + fluffing to wound rolls meant the chariots were still there...<br />

and I'm sure you all remember how 8th works and can figure out how turn 6 went. Pro tip...I'm great at ldship 7 tests...ldship 8 tests I'm still working on.<br />
<br />
<h3>
Result: <strike>Loss</strike> Moral Victory</h3>
End Result is that this particular battle was "lost", HOWEVER given that this was a delaying tactic in the wider war, it in fact enabled the main forces of the Empire (which had all the usual Empire tools...Karl Franz, stanks, knights etc) to out flank the Tomb King lines and win the war. So in actual fact is was a "win" in the wider sense of the word and history will remember this battle as the crucial moment of the war that swung the tide against the Tomb Kings.<br />
<br />
Also this game was a good reminder of just how important including double stank and a Karl Franz bus (with Ghul Maraz) is. In no way are the Empire workable without them. this <strike>loss </strike>moral victory had nothing to do with some unlucky dice rolls and Ben carefully and successfully targeting the threats early and all to do with not taking a cookie cutter list.<br />
<br />
<h2>
Was it fun/did 8th still work as a game unsupported by GW?</h2>
<br />
This to be honest was my main concern. Against the odds I still managed to have fun lining up my halberds and Great Swords. I even had fun despite leaving the "good stuff" at home.<br />
<br />
The odd thing? The rules still worked even though GW don't support them any more. This was very confusing and will require further investigation when my Empire return to the battle field slightly better equiped to handle morghiests and stuff.<br />
<br />
So I encourage you all (the 3 of you who read this) to pick up some dice, dust off the 8th rule book and keep playing games. It is (surprisingly) still really fun to play.Joelatronhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05267751235327398650noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1823097997959221213.post-69934755715177283612015-07-25T23:57:00.000-07:002015-07-25T23:57:04.508-07:00Ultramarines and post WHFB :(Hey hey hey<br />
<br />
BIG break in anything hobby related really as life got in the way.<br />
<br />
<h4>
<span style="font-size: large;">Age Of Sigmar</span></h4>
<br />
Nothing of any note gaming wise has occurred. I was going to attend the cool awesome event in Melbourne that everyone looks forward to, until I had to pull out sick with a massive head cold...super annoying...ESPECIALLY as it was probably in hindsight the last actual 8th event I could have attended :(<br />
<br />
The good news is that I know a few guys who are happy to continue playing as if nothing happened as there are still a bunch of events in Oz to come up. After then? Who knows.<br />
<br />
Kinda sad when I've spent the last wee while perfecting the 2400/2500/2600pt Empire list.<br />
<br />
As to AoS? It doesn't look appealing, and TBH if I want to play a skirmish game = Mordheim/Kill Team FTW. I was kinda excited before the rules dropped when the pics of the epic Dark Elf vs High Elf battle came out because I saw a few things:<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>Epic big battle</li>
<li>clear battle lines</li>
<li>what looked like COULD be formations</li>
</ul>
<div>
Formations (both like 40k and as in individual unit actions) was the key for me to enjoy a skirmish large style game where combat is the crucial phase. By this I mean creating a shield wall/calv lance/phalanx/skirmish harassment etc. WHFB was always odd in that the deeper a formation was = the more robust it was, when my amateur understanding of old school battles was that the wrap around from being WIDER was key. A skirmish formation usually means wider = better as trying to get more attacks in by achieving a wrap around. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
What could have been huh? Lining up your shield wall, outflanking with Cavalry, line breaking with elite units, creating gaps with chariot charges, harassing and ambushing with loose formation etc etc Throw in Magic and Dragons = awesome. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Instead we get "mash models in the middle, role 4+ FTW...oh and no rules/guidelines around creating an army to push this into dumb. My Empire army is falling into a state of disrepair (needs some gluing TLC)...and will most likely stay that way for a long time to come sadly. </div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<h4>
<span style="font-size: large;">Ultramarines</span></h4>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So the good news is that my 40k project is ticking along nicely. I'm loving the new Space Marine book and all the options it has. Some painting:</div>
<div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Bike Squad</td></tr>

<div>
First off I LOVE that the new codex is 1 box = actually 1 unit, so 103pts gets me a bike squad (troop choice thanks to Mr Chapter Master) with 2 grav guns and a combi grav on the serg (red helmet). Oh and I also get 3x TL boltgun on top to give a nice multi functional unit with objective secured. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
My 2nd unit is still in need of a serg as I picked up 6 ravenwing bikers + attack bike in a 2nd hand bin, but one of the guys is wearing robes - so will be a mounted Librarian. So 1 extra box to get, which will give me a serg, an apothecary for potential command squad options, and a 2nd librarian. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Grav and combi grav guns where found on Ebay from some "almost but not quite" alternative resin guns thing, </div>

<div>
Assault Squads for the SKYHAMMER formation! Yup. Not being too d*ckish with this one as you can easily spend over 1000pts on the formation where I'm aiming for more around the 460pt mark. 125pts of Assault marines nets a sweet little unit with an eviscerator, 2 flamers, and meltabombs on the sergeant. Ie does a bit of everything, and does those things well. Dropping 4 flamers down will thin out some hordes, and I can pop tanks with the meltabombs/eviscerator + tie stuff up with my general choppyness. </div>

A close up on some detail. His head is from the Centurian set and yes his Mohawk has rivets, so is a piece of armour...You can't quite see it but under his left arm is a melta bomb. Modelled with plasma pistol and power sword because it looks cool, but will 99.999% of the time simply have melta bombs. I wet mixed the power sword using the recommended GW Dark Eldar Incubi colour scheme (Kandtor Blue, Kabalite Green, Sybarite Green, Ubshanti bone). Basing is also the GW texture paint Blackfire Earth washed with Agrax Earthshade which is a lot of fun to use. I'll add some static grass once I find something suitably dead looking...might even put some water effects on it too so it looks gross and muddy...then I need to get powders to mud up the boots etc etc etc it never ends!</div>

And finally something I painted for fun. I bought the Reclusium command squad box so I would have the bitz from the command squad, a razorback and this guy. He's been painted with a green shoulderpad and purple seals so he can align with either my Salamanders or the Ultramarines. Mainly so I have the option of a demi company down the road + a very cool looking model. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So that's me for now. 2 Boxes of Devastators, 1 box of Tac Marines, 2 drop pods, and a 40k basing kit are in the post. Now to paint up my Mounted Librarian :)</div>

<br />
Not up to much hobby wise - having to work evenings and Saturday has really put a dampener on things.<br />
<br />
BUT I have managed to do the odd bit of paining to keep me engaged.<br />
<br />
WHFB painting is on hold until I have a better idea of what 9th has in store. On that, I had a 2600pt game the other day: Empire vs the Undead...basically Grave Guard VC + a Lich priest lvl4 and casket with 4 of the Morghiest things. This game was unusual in that we both had infantry (Graveguard and Ghouls + 3 units of zombies vs my 40 Halberds and archers WHO ENGAGED IN COMBAT) supporting our hammers (Morghiest, VC blender lord vs Demis, Karl Franz bus). Kinda took me back to pre Elfpocolypse 8th...the golden years! The game involved manoeuvring infantry into place, getting the charge off (weird I know)...and a bit of good 'ol fashioned Static Combat Res. Best part was Karl Franz + bus avoiding Grave Guard + Blender Vamp all game!<br />
<br />
Needless to say it was a resounding victory for the Good Guys. The Undead menace was held back (again) and plenty a-zombie was hacked and pecked to death and Ghul Maraz was wielded in anger smiting a Wight King. All it cost was a regiment of Halberds (squished and blended), 2 captasus who had their souls removed Raiders of the Ark styles and and engineer or 2 who valiantly manned their Helblasters before sacrificing themselves to delay the hordes...I'm sure the Empire will recover.<br />
<br />
<h3>
Painting!</h3>
I have been busy starting an Ultramarine force. (check out my super budget on the fly "too lazy to set it up properly = spend more effort DIYing it" light box)<br />

<h3>
Theory behind army</h3>
The theory behind army is that in current 40k one needs to maximise multishot, high strength stuff. This may be a bit "duh", but recent books have really emphasised this due to monstrous creatures becoming more common. Traditional marine shooting has emphasised 1 really good shot (ie add extra guns = usually twinlink) which is great vs tanks...but not great vs monstrous creatures. Sadly, the only real marine answer to this is grav - hence going to be running 2x3 grav/hurricane bolter tubturians, 2x5 grav bikers. This gives enough bolter shooting to deal with hordes, and lots of counters to scary stuff. Add in Tigerus, chapter master, and the Blood Angel formation to give the tubs droppods = awesome :D...then add an Imperial knight because they are cool = army done...in about 1 year. Thanks Glen for the list idea :D<br />
<br />
However in the meantime I'll be getting Scouts and Landspeeder storms to allow me to play smaller games (1200pts). Grav + scouts = fun right?<br />

<br />
<h3>
Fluff</h3>
<br />
Before the End Times started I was getting a lot of stick for not really engaging with the "Fluff". So I went out of my way to find something I liked about the High Elves other than "they have dragons" (...and army wide ASF). Earlier I had (kinda) themed my high elves around the idea of Saxon shield wall (using Whitelions)...but meta changes and all that (+ new book) kinda ended that.<br />
<br />
Anywho...after much reading of the Army book (or "cannon" as fandom's refer to these things) I actually kinda liked the idea of the SeaGuard...guardians of Ulthuan...+ naval stuff (who doesn't like ships???).<br />
<br />
+ it helps that the seaguard models are very pretty (and not always useless in the game...)<br />
<br />
Anywho<br />
<br />
<h3>
Seahelm BSB</h3>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-x0w_A3jQTPw/VNbSrbmVmnI/AAAAAAAAD1s/sdti7hVoCxg/s1600/P2088997.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-x0w_A3jQTPw/VNbSrbmVmnI/AAAAAAAAD1s/sdti7hVoCxg/s1600/P2088997.jpg" height="320" width="213" /></a></div>
Very, very nice model to put together and paint. I was a little worried about the banner, but conveniently a dab of glue on the edge of the helmet = 2 contact points. Having moved to Melbourne I had to restart my paint collection so this is painted entirely with the "new" paints. This does mean he is a billion times brighter than the rest of my collection, but meh - it looks pretty :) I still dont own any water effects stuff so I need to finish the gems (and probably paint in the eyes...) but I'm happy with the result so far for "table top" quality.<br />
<br />
<h3>
Seahelm Dragon</h3>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--8InX5Xzcm0/VNbVQ4I4gPI/AAAAAAAAD14/Fr26gQR8Ub0/s1600/P2088999.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--8InX5Xzcm0/VNbVQ4I4gPI/AAAAAAAAD14/Fr26gQR8Ub0/s1600/P2088999.jpg" height="320" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-RD0yKZCf9hA/VNbVXiPd_QI/AAAAAAAAD2A/are_qmsmTok/s1600/P2089001.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-RD0yKZCf9hA/VNbVXiPd_QI/AAAAAAAAD2A/are_qmsmTok/s1600/P2089001.jpg" height="320" width="213" /></a></div>
I was a little suspect about this conversion. I've always liked the Black Dragon and for this "theme" approach it works as it has a nautical feel to it. What I wasn't sure about was the use of a dragon for the seaguard (theme)...then I remembered the one off game that no one bought...Dreadfleet...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GWQ6SWO1LWM/VNbWCT6iftI/AAAAAAAAD2I/8MLeqb-xvJs/s1600/m1970105a_60011999001_seadrake01_873x627.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GWQ6SWO1LWM/VNbWCT6iftI/AAAAAAAAD2I/8MLeqb-xvJs/s1600/m1970105a_60011999001_seadrake01_873x627.jpg" height="229" width="320" /></a></div>
...yup that's some dragon's with a fleet = legit for fluff.<br />
<br />
I do plan to re-do the basing to look like it is perched on a rock in the sea...but I'll leave that for another time!<br />

<br />
Long time no post. Long weekend in Australia for comfortably racist/patriotic day = epic road trip up to Canberra for Cancon. 3 days of Warhammer goodness in a massive events centre with hundreds of fellow nerds in 30+ degree heat and no air con.<br />
<br />
Tried to think up a witty pun but I couldn't...this is the closest I got<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">...con</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
Anywho:<br />
<br />
120 players Swedish comp needing to score between 12-16 with 15pts per 0.1 of difference to the "softer" list.<br />
<br />
<h3>
My Epic 15.3 High Elves</h3>
<br />
Prince: Stardragon, Heavy Armour, shield, Dragonhelm, Talisman of Preservation, Warriorbane<br />
Mage lvl2: Ring of Fury, Shrieking Sword, Sceptre of Stability<br />
Noble BSB: Dragon Armour, Shield of 4+ parry, Sword of Anti Heroes<br />
Noble: ASF/AP Eagle, Dragon Armour, Enchanted Shield, Starlance, potion of foolhardiness<br />
27 Seaguard: FC - shields<br />

<br />
So for the astute amongst you I have themed the list around the Seaguard...defending the shores of the (now sunken) Ulthuan. Now days I don't even know how to fluff justify. This is what happens when I attempt to get involved and caught up in the fluff...BAD THINGS.<br />
<br />
For the first time in AGES I actually got in quite a few practice games in with the list before the event. During the practice games I played the list the opposite of how I designed it to play. This may sound crazy, but I wrote the list to win 12-8, but I needed to test it's ability to win 16-4+, which meant understanding the limitations of aggressive combat orientated play.<br />
<br />
<h3>
The Event</h3>
<br />
Now I'm not going to bore you with "and then I rolled a 6" style battle reports, but I'll give a run down of how I felt the event went for me and stuff.<br />
<br />
<b>First of all the tables</b>. 60 tables = I can understand having no cloths over the wood (bouncy dice all the time!) but having this on tables...<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-r8sFSqbsivA/VMdeZOKPK_I/AAAAAAAAD0c/KoeTwOd6xg4/s1600/IMG_0874.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-r8sFSqbsivA/VMdeZOKPK_I/AAAAAAAAD0c/KoeTwOd6xg4/s1600/IMG_0874.JPG" height="320" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Yup...that's printed cardboard for terrain...</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
For an event I was lead to believe was THE premier Aussie tournament was a little bit of a downer. Maybe Fields of Blood events have spoiled my expectations, but I 100% believe that this hobby is a visual one, so stuff like this is a little disappointing...with nothing to add about TLOS implications! But at the end of the day given the "competitive" nature of events I am grateful there was ample terrain on the tables to allow for tactical deployment etc.<br />
<br />
But other than that niggle the event was super well run...if not dominated by Kiros one-up-man-ship What was interesting was that both players had to present to the TO table together at the end of the game to get scores entered. This made things efficient, but if I actually wanted to sports hit someone (and not simply because my opponent had the gall to buy, assemble, paint, submit, and bring a dwarf list to an event as I usually do) it would have been a little awkward...<br />
<br />
<h3>
My games</h3>
<br />
<b>Game one: vs Hellebron Dark Elves Dawn Attack</b><br />
Hellebron did not make combat. My speed gave me a very important edge as I was unaffected by the deployment. Stardragon killed 2 RBTs. Final Trans killed my BSB. Mage spent 5 turns as a frog. Won the shooting battle and with that <b>12-8</b><br />
<br />
<b>Game two: vs Warriors of Chaos Battleline</b><br />
Usual sort of list. I won the shooting war, because Hellcannon kept rampaging. My opponent was a little new to the game so didn't really know how to handle double flee. Final Trans killed by mage. Stardragon and Eagle Noble tag-teamed a block of Tzeentch warriors, the BSB and then a Chimera. for a <b>16-4</b><br />
<br />
<b>Game 3: Ogres - meeting Engagement.</b><br />
I had 1 chariot off the board, he had 2 units of 3 guts and his kitty. T1 I took off 1 unit of 6 leadbelchers. T2 the other unit died. Stardragon took out 5 Maneaters and 1 of the gut units whilst using big LoS blocking hill in middle to dodge the ironblaster <b>14-6</b><br />
<br />
<b>Game 4: OnG - Battleline</b><br />
End of t2 the game looked like this:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-R7iCFgscWtg/VMdh12TJ6eI/AAAAAAAAD0o/UMgCmJG37LU/s1600/IMG_0883.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-R7iCFgscWtg/VMdh12TJ6eI/AAAAAAAAD0o/UMgCmJG37LU/s1600/IMG_0883.JPG" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
I just avoided the blocks and killed everything else with shooting. Stardragon ate a Rock lobba and t6 killed 13 Orc Big Uns with his breath weapon for lolz, Eagle noble killed a bolt thrower and the doom diver. Foot of Gork killed 5 Seaguard and sniped by BSB with a failed LOS! OnG MVP was a Boar chariot on 1 wound that survived 2 turns of my shooting and magic, casually charged my seaguard and sniped my mage before an eagle charged into break and run it down. <b>12-8</b><br />
<br />
<b>Game 5: Woodies - Blood and Glory</b><br />
Basically I got first turn and took out a unit of Gladeguard. Seaguard hid in combat vs a Treeman with a late game saving charge from Eagle noble and Stardragon to sneak the points. He cleaned out my easy points while I killed anything that got near me (scouts). Probably my favourite game of the event. <b>10-10</b><br />
<br />
<b>Game 6 Dark Elves - Battleline</b><br />
This list had a dragon, manticore and only 2 units of Xbows...yet somehow his shooting was more effective than mine! Seaguard died to riderless dragon in front and manticore in rear. RBTs were useless. Skycutter charge finished off the dragon a turn too late. Stardragon and Eagle noble ate a unit of coldones, the BSB, a unit of 30 corsairs (Failed terror test with run down BOOM!), and cleaned out a unit of 30 Executioners. Somewhere in between the Eagle noble managed to also get a unit of xbows for a <b>16-4</b><br />
<br />
<b>Game 7 VC - Battle for the Pass</b><br />
Zombie dragon? 2 Vargulfs??, Undead Orc themed? Won best painted for the 2nd year in a row = This game had it all going for it. His terrorgiest pops his nose out...DEAD to shooting. Sisters casually flee a vargulf charge...seaguard bunker fails a re-roll ldship 9 panic test and run 11 inches off the board t3? yeah...game went from "I have this for a cheeky 11-9/12-8 to "how do I not lose this big" fast. Stardragon and Eagle noble killed a unit of doggies and a unit of zombies in their break through to safely. Rest of army (2 RBTs, 12 reavers, 3 skycutters, 2 eagles) managed to kill 2 fell bats and do 3 wounds to a vargulf in their noble sacrifice to keep my dragon alive...yeah expected better boys! lose <b>5-15</b><br />
<br /><b>Game 8 Woodies - Battleline</b><br />
Beautiful Halfling woodie army. Got my best sports vote. He got first turn and killed my reavers. In response I kill 1 wildrider from each of his 2 units BOOM! Yeah. Trueflight FTW in this game. Eagle noble in a moment of super lazy completely unforced error kinda way casually took the sisters in the rear (BEHAVE), held with no wound taken, turned around, won combat and ran them down...yeah. Stardragon was 3 turns short of surviving the entire event when 2 skewed magic phases in a row = 4d6 searing doom total to take him out followed by 40 trueflight shots to kill the prince. I could have held him back, but I needed to press his army back to stop the trueflight wrecking me (more than it did). Skycutters did their only triple charge into 6 wildriders and wiped them out with impact hits. Seaguard won a combat rear charging the other unit! Mage firey convocated 6 glade riders and killed them all! Losing General - lose <b>8-12</b><br />
<br />
<h3>
Overall result:</h3>
I ended up on 92 Battle points...8 short of my goal. Vs ETC opponents (game 5 and 7) I held my own = nice and encouraging. Only getting 13pts on the final day really hurt. Overall I ended up 31st out of 120 players. getting my goal of 100 battle points would have been good for 15th, so I wasn't that far out of the race given first place was dirty Kiros on 119.<br />
<br />
The Shirts Off Crew I travelled up with all placed in top 50 with 2 top 10 placings and a 2nd best painted award too. Not bad for 6 hungover nerds in singlets!<br />

<br />
<h3>
What I've been doing:</h3>
In between settling in, starting a new job, etc I've been getting beaten again and again by the locals. My High Elves tend to crumble bottom turn 6 swinging a comfortable win into a big loss. oh wells.<br />
<br />
<h3>
Bringing the hobby back:</h3>
The most exciting thing recently is that now I have a job (yay!) and got paid for the first time in 3 months, I've been able to get my hobby back. In fact I EVEN HAVE A PROJECT...putting together a Seaguard themed list for Cancon.<br />
<br />
I've bought all the kits needed, and over Xmas started painting it all up.<br />
<br />
<h4>
Le Eagles:</h4>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Very Exciting - the LOTR eagles all painted up!<br />
<br />
For as long as I've had a High Elf army my eagles have been IoB griffons with the riders all chopped off and green stuffed up. This has worked nicely as it has allowed me to use the IoB griffon rider as a noble mounted on an Eagle...or if I actually use an Griffon = I have an option when the rider dies first.<br />
<br />
HOWEVER...with the current Seaguard theme = I will have 3 (yes 3) Skycutters who are pulled by eagles = will look silly if my "eagles" are actually griffons + since Cancon is a Swedish comp event there is a high chance someone will actually use a griffon = I dont want to cause confusion (WYSIWYG and all that).<br />
<br />
<h4>
Le Eagle Noble:</h4>

Not the greatest pic, but here we have Gwaihir in all his failcast glory with one of the skycutter crew crudely blue tac'ed on top (if someone can suggest a more effect option that makes transport and the like easier I'm all ears).<br />
<br />
Inspiration was the Wood Elf noble on an eagle model for those in the know, but obviously more seaguard-like.<br />
<br />
So that's me for the moment.<br />
<br />
On the painting tray at the moment (dont have a table anymore) is the 3 skycutters, seahelm bsb, seahelm trident guy for the seahelm riding a black dragon boom!<br />
<br />

<br />
Thursday night is Warhammer night here in Brunswick and I rocked up with my High Elves and found myself in a pick up game with Empire that looked like THIS:<br />
<br />
Karl Franz with the Ghul Maraz<br />
BSB<br />
13 Reiksguard knights with swiftness banner posse<br />
10 Archers bunkering 2 lvl2 light mages<br />
Luminark<br />
Hurricanum<br />
...and oh yeah...SIXTY HALBERDS WITH 6 ARCHERS IN A DETACHMENT<br />
<br />
So no artillery, no 1+as brigade...no shooting of any note.<br />
<br />
In response I unpacked my 2000pts of Elfy goodness<br />
<br />
Lvl4 metal, book of hoeth<br />
SeaHelm BSB: Reavorbow, shield of 4+ parry<br />
2x10 Silverhelms: FC - shields<br />
28 Whitelions: FC - Banner of World Dragon<br />
5 Shadow Warriors<br />
Frostie<br />
3x1 RBT<br />
Eagle<br />
<br />
An interesting match up. The light mages rolled phas, speed of light, net, and timewarp. I rolled up searing doom, glittering robes, enchanted blades and final trans.<br />
<br />
We deployed;<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_mvmE4zEKo0/VECodmd_O8I/AAAAAAAADuU/gABLgh6_kdg/s1600/IMG_0859.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_mvmE4zEKo0/VECodmd_O8I/AAAAAAAADuU/gABLgh6_kdg/s1600/IMG_0859.JPG" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
Hopefully our respective tactics are rather clear. Empire looking to own the middle...I'm looking to encircle.<br />
<br />
Anywho the Empire stumble up carefully. I let through Timewarp on the Halberds.<br />
<br />
I then have my turn and make my fatal mistake (pic is beginning of Empire t2 checking the mistake)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-m6bOhuYhtiw/VECpScEJHGI/AAAAAAAADuc/O6YQTivSAr4/s1600/IMG_0861.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-m6bOhuYhtiw/VECpScEJHGI/AAAAAAAADuc/O6YQTivSAr4/s1600/IMG_0861.JPG" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
First what I did right:<br />
- I reformed the whitelions into "Seahelm abuse" formation.<br />
- Knights and Frostie a pushing the flanks<br />
- Shadow Warriors push into the archer detachment to stop them getting annoying<br />
<br />
What I did wrong:<br />
- didn't factor in 16 inch halberd march (not a biggie)<br />
- Eagle should have blocked the knight bus BECAUSE<br />
- Frostie was lazily placed and scrapped into the LOS of Karl Franz<br />
- silverhelms on my right a little too close/under appreciated luminark charge<br />
<br />
Obviously the eagle/frostie thing is an either place frostie better, OR place it better AND block with eagle (ie frostie with more view of the centre of the board).<br />
<br />
So magic phase...6 dice monkey Final Trans and blow up the Reiksknight and kill Karl Franz! Shooting phase kills a few more knights and we call it. I WIN!<br />
<br />
However we play on pretending Karl Franz avoided the final trans...and this is where all my mistakes kick in..<br />
<br />
1) luminark charges silverhelms...queue all game hold up to allow Karl and the posse to clean them out<br />
2) hurricanum charges eagle (holds), silverhelms flank in but fail to kill it...cannot overrun as this would mean rear charging karl franz for certain death...instead hurricanum flees TOWARDS the halberd combat.<br />
3) frostie flees karl charge and is removed from the game as it gets out of position and cannot get back to help before dying.<br />
3) not really mistake, but a consequence of losing 3 levels the lvl2's gain magic dominance and the halberds spend the rest of the game with ws10, i10, -1 to hit...Whitelions died horribly and didnt risk combat reform as I had no chance to use them offensively :(<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PYofVIe_rOw/VECuH-S7Y9I/AAAAAAAADus/oOSw8lHOLrk/s1600/IMG_0863.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PYofVIe_rOw/VECuH-S7Y9I/AAAAAAAADus/oOSw8lHOLrk/s1600/IMG_0863.JPG" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
So there you are!<br />
<br />
Always check your LOS archs, always check your next turn threats, and try not to turn your lvl4 into a lvl1 t1!<br />
<br />

<br />
not a big update, but big news.<br />
<br />
<h3>
FIRST; fixed the Frosties!</h3>
<br />
Trip to hardware store, cheap hacksaw, cheap garden hooks...combine the 2, add drilled base and drilled frostie =<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-O7VSsqpeV_Y/VDo1mZOe4tI/AAAAAAAADsw/dBB6rORTV6g/s1600/IMG_0762.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-O7VSsqpeV_Y/VDo1mZOe4tI/AAAAAAAADsw/dBB6rORTV6g/s1600/IMG_0762.JPG" height="320" width="239" /></a></div>
Frostie just balances on top...lean it slightly forward and it sits in that position. Not the prettiest fix, but it works and is game functional (ie the frostie can be easily removed!)<br />
<br />
<h3>
SECOND: CRACKS CALL</h3>
<br />
So the uber monster list was great fun. I got pulled apart by more serious lists, but I did smash face a few times! Worst part was losing a frostie (twice) to a flank charge from gyro, breaking and getting run down (4 attacks sucks). Even worse part was losing Blood and Glory t1 to a similar sneaky gyro move allowing my annointed to get picked off from a line of monsters :( Best part - smashing Glen's Quadruple scream list when my frostie saved 8 from 11 scream wounds and then smashed up the bus and crumbled the evil undead.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CsxL8LgOKHc/VDo2m4UpXjI/AAAAAAAADs8/oIE4Yru9a5E/s1600/IMG_0777.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CsxL8LgOKHc/VDo2m4UpXjI/AAAAAAAADs8/oIE4Yru9a5E/s1600/IMG_0777.JPG" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<b>What worked</b>...um I was super mobile I guess and when I successfully rolled to hit, I smashed face<br />
<b>What didn't work:</b> annointed is not choppy enough to beat face, but choppy enough to kill a unit champ = very vulnerable to challenges. No BSB sucked (lost last game vs Peter W's Vamps due to a failed ldship 8 test that left my general stranded in challenge with a vamplord minus the frostie who was there to beat up the black knights - he later rallied and cleaned them out and put the vamplord on 1 wound, but still!), and Dragon Mages are cool in fluff, but useless on paper and on the table. Seriously: don't even bother. There is NOTHING redeeming about them. For the cost I could have sneaked in 2+as BOWD BSB on horse, lvl2 with scroll and ring, and tweaked the core to have a massive bus of Silverhelms.<br />
<h4>
HOWEVER:</h4>
<div>
I did win the Jockey race!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Here is my Jockey "Dragon Tucker" (behave) winning:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nyQ26jW1wzI/VDo3z0VmUsI/AAAAAAAADtI/9xDZBxUjXeE/s1600/IMG_0786.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nyQ26jW1wzI/VDo3z0VmUsI/AAAAAAAADtI/9xDZBxUjXeE/s1600/IMG_0786.JPG" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
I don't really know what my secret was...I took a lucky horseshoe (basically a free life if someone tries to gank you), a free re-roll item (great for all the crucial rolls on the fences), and an extra d6 movement OUO item (for the extra speed). I was the only one who sung "Sexual healing" at the Slaanesh wall for a shot at free health in return for giving up a turn of movement (instead of humping the wall as most people ended up getting...err "stuck" doing). This meant that once I shot out ahead (pro tip -don't stop to hurt people!) I could weather the attacks from those far enough behind to still be able to use the Nurgle wall benefit. </div>
<br />
Thank's Neil for a fantastic event with food, accommodation and Munch-kin.<br />
<br />
<h3>
40K stuff: Cities of Death campaign</h3>
As part of my tour-de-warhammer I played a round of Wrythhold's 40K cities of death campaign. I took Salamanders (obviously). Comp was 1000pts, no fliers or LOW/Imperial knights (unless the required tiles on the map were held), max 1 HQ, Elite, Fast, Heavy, min 1 troop.<br />
<br />
I took:<br />
Vulkan: command squad: 4 meltas, apocothary, droppod<br />
Ironclad: H. flamer, Melta, assault launchers<br />
2x5 Marines: Combi-melta, melta<br />
2x5 Marines: Combi-melta, flamer<br />
5 Scouts: Bolters, melta bombs, landspeeder storm - multimelta<br />
<br />
So lots of objective capturing stuff (using 7th ed objective capture rules)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IzWk23ruFHI/VDo5puqK5rI/AAAAAAAADtU/xGKhjt0OcwA/s1600/IMG_0850.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IzWk23ruFHI/VDo5puqK5rI/AAAAAAAADtU/xGKhjt0OcwA/s1600/IMG_0850.JPG" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-k_fQv6vb3Z8/VDo55J4uqII/AAAAAAAADtc/VuvgEQ__kdM/s1600/IMG_0851.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-k_fQv6vb3Z8/VDo55J4uqII/AAAAAAAADtc/VuvgEQ__kdM/s1600/IMG_0851.JPG" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--LKPe_Sj4-U/VDo6DCtZvtI/AAAAAAAADtk/8N_AkEc4f1s/s1600/IMG_0852.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--LKPe_Sj4-U/VDo6DCtZvtI/AAAAAAAADtk/8N_AkEc4f1s/s1600/IMG_0852.JPG" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VqWBCUCHp_4/VDo6NUsJpkI/AAAAAAAADts/6Qc9jDcdCtI/s1600/IMG_0853.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VqWBCUCHp_4/VDo6NUsJpkI/AAAAAAAADts/6Qc9jDcdCtI/s1600/IMG_0853.JPG" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Editor's note: it was a mistake to take assault launchers on Ironclad over Combi Melta on the Scout sergeant. Always give scout sergeant melta bombs and combi melta for tank/building hunting fun :D<br />
<br />
I was up against Glen's Nightlords Chaos Marines army. 7 objectives on the table. I won the roll for sides, but Glen seized initiative and promptly blew up the main centre building objective and my Ironclad (who I thought was hidden...found out the hard way Obliterators can move and shoot...). In return my command squad and Vulkan dropped down and along with some support shooting deleted the terminators. I made a huge mistake when doing this. I placed Vulkan to shoot his flamer, but I instead should have placed him to tank the 10 chaos tac marines with 2 plasma guns that I had aggressively placed to attack t2 (once terminators were toast). Instead his bolters magically became ap3 and gunned down the command squad along with Vulcan...I also learned what "torrent" means when his Jump pack commander burninated a few too many marines with his ap3 flamer! I got lucky as he failed the follow up charge, I shot out his raptor buddies, and murdersword face failed his charge AGAIN and got gunned down. In the end I was 1 hull point away from winning the game as my storm died t6 to some lucky snap shooting giving up the objective it was holding over the obliterators...and to make things worse Vulkan then died in the campaign! Oh well. Ryan who I was subbing in for is taking the narrative to heart and is changing the commander to a Master of the Forge (please note the very extending left field joke in that for all you 40k 6th ed BRB readers) and is looking to run a list heavy on the attack bikes and plasma cannons...<br />
<br />
<h3>
BIGGEST NEWS: I'm now in Oz</h3>
So yes, I now live in Melbourne. I managed to pack my High Elves (well most of them). I've signed up for Cancon in January (2400pts Swedish...must score between 10 and 16) and "Blood and Glory" in November (2000pts 5 game event with no comp, but TO subjective comp score). Should be fun and before Cancon and NZTC I have a wee bit of hobby to do as well, so once Ryan ships over my paints (hint hint), I'll be able to get started on that to give yous some hobby update posts as well!<br />
<br />
Other than that there is Thursday night gaming at Shirts Off Warhammer (5 mins tram up the road boom!) for battle reports and stuff. <br />
<br />Joelatronhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05267751235327398650noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1823097997959221213.post-10194941683129291812014-09-17T01:47:00.000-07:002014-09-17T01:48:00.953-07:00Crack's Call!!!! (and update on hobby life)Yo!<br />
<br />
LOOOOOONG time no post. Life has caught up with me. Big news is that as of 9 October I will be living in Melbourne, and the Pittsburgh Penguins 2014/2015 season will start with a win over the Ducks and a fight between Getzlaf and Downie (finger's crossed - gotta keep the animosity going).<br />
<br />
So off to the land of obsessive comp, slabs, and sunshine to rejoin my brothers in nerdom Shirts Off Warhammer Inc.<br />
<br />
<h4>
Call to Arms has been and gone.</h4>
I took a Daemon list to see how it would go. Over all it went well coming 6th and putting me over the projected threshold for Masters qualification (that I wont be able to attend). 2 big wins (20-0, 19-0), 2 small losses to Dark Elf avoidance lists (9-11, 8-12) and 1 small loss to usual bell Skaven (9-11). It was interesting to enter an event with a list I had had maybe 2 games with beforehand. It's the little things like knowing what a beast of Nurgle can do vs what etc etc that really swing it. I could have Drawn/won the game vs Greg's list if I was a bit more familiar with the art of DOC castling. Vs Jeff's Dark Elves (who won the event) I had him on the ropes for a comfortable win, but - not knowing the limitations of the list - a few simple mistakes and it swings the other way. Loss vs Skaven was time related. We only got in 4 rounds, and I knew this early on so push waaaay harder and faster than I probably needed to to get a result...and it ended up costing me with a bottom turn 4 big points swing against me. (rolling 4 1's to wound/kill the BSB didn't help either!)<br />
<br />
<h4>
Salamanders</h4>
<div>
Are all but finished...well as finished as they can be given my very limited time! I can field the following list all painted:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Vulkan</div>
<div>
Command squad: Apocothary, 4 combi meltas - droppod</div>
<div>
Ironclad: Hflamer, melta - droppod</div>
<div>
Dreadnaught: Hflamer, multimelta</div>
<div>
5 Tac Marines: combimelta, flamer - Razorback: stormbolter, Tlinked lascannon</div>
<div>
5 Tac Marines: combimelta, flamer - Razorback: stormbolter, Tlinked lascannon</div>
<div>
5 Tac Marines: Combimelta, melta - Razorback: stormbolter, Tlinked lascannon</div>
<div>
5 Tac Marines: Combimelta, melta - droppod</div>
<div>
5 scouts: Combimelta, meltabombs, Bolters - Landspeeder Storm: Multimelta</div>
<div>
Landspeeder Typhoon</div>
<div>
Landspeeder Typhoon</div>
<div>
3 Centurions: 3xGravcannons, 3xmissile launchers</div>
<div>
1850</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I have grand designs to up the number of Droppods and stuff to be more "meta", but as a starter list I'm happy (and it is themed!).</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I'll do an army parade post next week once I have time to think.</div>
<h3>
Cracks Call</h3>
<div>
Is next weekend! 2000pts in Masterton. A bit of fun and something different. I have taken the following list:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Annointed of Asuryan: Frost Phoenix, Armour of Caledor</div>
<div>
Dragon Mage lvl2: Dragon Armour, Enchanted Shield, Golden Crown, Ring of Fury, Warriorbane</div>
<div>
15 Archers: Musician, Standard Bearer</div>
<div>
13 Archers: Musician, Standard Bearer</div>
<div>
5 Reavers: Spears and bows</div>
<div>
5 Reavers: Spears and bows</div>
<div>
5 Shadow Warriors</div>
<div>
Frost Phoenix</div>
<div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The totally not racist KKK Shadow Warriors</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So the world's most unsubtle list of all time. I wanted to submit something that was a bit out of left field and not what I would usually use.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<h4>
Fluffy?</h4>
<div>
There has been a bit of twitter chatter about fluffy lists. For me a list needs to:</div>
<div>
<ul>
<li>be competitive</li>
<li>offer a challenge to your opponent</li>
<li>have a clear direction</li>
<li>cover any weakness as a result of the direction chosen</li>
</ul>
<div>
So to me a "Fluffy list" still needs to do the above. A non functioning list of "soft" choices isn't fluffy - it's bad list writing. </div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
My Pro tip for 2000pt list design is that it is almost the perfect points value to play at in that you have JUST ENOUGH points to get the toys in, but NOT QUITE ENOUGH to take them all and round the list off = lists have glaring weakness and either do 1 thing really well, or lots of things not quite so well as the could/should to be effective. I personally take the 1st approach. I went "how many monsters can I fit in given the armies available to me" (because monsters are fun) and then tried to flesh it out.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
My list has some severe weaknesses regarding the scenarios, and some hard counters. Fluffy to me is looking to provide a functioning list without resorting to the "usual"...at 2000pts I could have easily gone lvl4 death book of hoeth, Frostie, RBTS, BOWD BSB, silverhelm bus and token infantry bunker for watchtower. Filth - but the usual filth with few to no weaknesses. My list is tough and I've never seen someone monstermash to this extent because the list is usually rounded off with better counters, more magic, and other compromises that give the list an all comers approach. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Anywho looking over the other lists that are been taken I see plenty of red flags (poison cauldron Witch Elf horde, Dwarf artillery snoozefest parks, super scream list, double warplightning cannon bell and stormbanner skaven to name a few) so it should be interesting. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I'll remember to take lots of photos and stuff for a battle report</div>
<div>

<br /></div>
<div>
First up - some Salamander support characters that I dont particularly see myself using in "regular" lists, but are good to have around for the big games/trying something different:</div>

<br /></div>
<div>
Taken with my Ipad Mini...still a little grainy, but much better detail than ye old photo technique I don't like the fluffy approach of having all Librarian's being blue - so mine has Salamander green armour on. </div>

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
A case of finding a techpriest cheap instead of forking out far too much for a failcast one from GW. </div>

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Some of the most fiddly models I've ever dealt with (on par with some of the stuff on the Hurricanum kit) that are also a bit of a showcase in GW's plastic casting. I'm in 2 minds about glueing the riders down...ease of transport vs ease of game play. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3nq8mjB34r0/U8dRbFtlXlI/AAAAAAAADjs/kaOSfAaPvgs/s1600/photo4+(12).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3nq8mjB34r0/U8dRbFtlXlI/AAAAAAAADjs/kaOSfAaPvgs/s1600/photo4+(12).jpg" height="320" width="199" /></a></div>
<div>
And a little bit of freehand on the one command option I see myself taking on these guys. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
SO yeah that's that for now. Next on the painting table is my 3rd unit of 6 wildriders, a 3rd droppod and a Melta Dreadnaught.</div>

<br />
Weekend just been was the annual home town tournament run by the Palmy gaming club (complete with Saturday night BBQ and all).<br />
<br />
Last year the comp was Swedish which was lots of fun (double witch hunter FTW!), this year it was ETC complete with ETC terrain and base sizes (though confession - I didn't base my artillery and it was ok). I'm not the biggest fan of the ETC format, but it is still Warhammer and I'm not one to throw my dice out of the cot and not enjoy myself anyway.<br />
<br />
<h3>
My list:</h3>
Confession #2 I literally had not unpacked my Empire army since Horned Rat, so I took the exact same list:<br />
<br />
GTM: runefang, Ch shield, Pospeed, DBGem<br />
lvl4: life, steed, stubborn, mr(3)<br />
lvl1: steed, fire, scroll<br />
BSB: Bsteed, 1+ as, lance, white cloak<br />
COTE, Bsteed, 1+as, lance, OTS<br />
13 Inner Circle Knights: FC-banner of discipline<br />
5 Knights: M<br />
5 Knights: M<br />
4 Demis: M<br />
cannon<br />
cannon<br />
Stank<br />
Hurricanum<br />
<br />
Or as I call it the "Life Lance".<br />
<br />
I was going to take a double prince, double lvl2 High magic, calv MSU High Elf list, but I couldn't get it all finished to a standard I wanted to be comfortable using at an event due to running out of basing materials. My resupply order arrived 3 days before the event so I COULD have taken it if I had known that at list submission deadline. Oh well....<br />
<br />
<h3>
<b>GAME 1: vs Ryan - WoC</b></h3>
Fantastic...I travel all the way to Palmy to play my regular gaming buddy, so I had no tricks up my sleeve and had to rely on good 'ol cannons doing their thing...or not. This happened:<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0dP-Oqogq2o/U8OVUblbsZI/AAAAAAAADhI/GWxjB1_tGGA/s1600/1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0dP-Oqogq2o/U8OVUblbsZI/AAAAAAAADhI/GWxjB1_tGGA/s1600/1.jpg" height="239" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Chaos Lord, BSB on daemonic mount and chariot vs Stank...</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
and this happened...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XglyZZZXq7U/U8OVi6sjxGI/AAAAAAAADhQ/BaTU35mEuAQ/s1600/2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XglyZZZXq7U/U8OVi6sjxGI/AAAAAAAADhQ/BaTU35mEuAQ/s1600/2.jpg" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>
But thankfully Ryan forgot about the ability to reform after combat so the warriors got lance in the front and demis in the flank (hiding behind the building having "tactically withdrawn" earlier in the game).<br />
<br />
Ryan ran away with all his points...my cannons did nothing of note (other than finishing the chariot my stank failed to grind) and given my chaff all died, picking up his chaff and the warriors brought the game to a draw...We should have slept in and just called it!<br />
<br />
<b>Result 10-10 Draw</b><br />
<br />
<h3>
Game 2: vs Dan WoC</h3>
<br />
Game 2 and my 2nd WoC list. Dan is NZ's WoC player, so I knew I was up for a cagey game. I knew that to have a chance his chaff had to die. T1 I rock out the lvl1 fire mage, 3 dice IF a 2d6 fireball..only kill 3 marauder horsemen and go down the hole (sad face). The rest of the game looked like this:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RPYwega8f5w/U8OXOjCAxhI/AAAAAAAADhc/33kpz_YdgIM/s1600/3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RPYwega8f5w/U8OXOjCAxhI/AAAAAAAADhc/33kpz_YdgIM/s1600/3.jpg" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>
No point reforming as the fast calv would just adjust accordingly...I gave him the stank for the trolls to vomit on. This game was a huge cannon failure. I looked at his list and my mental note was "all chariots dead + 1 unit of skull crushers = I should win the game"...instead my cannons did 4 wounds IN TOTAL over the course of the game...1 measly chariot...sigh<br />
<br />
<b>Result: 7-13 loss</b><br />
<br />
<h3>
<b>Game 3: vs Charlie "Hobby Hero" Dark Elves.</b></h3>
<br />
Dreadlord on dragon, no BSB, brolocks for magic and 2 manticores = Not the best match up for him. 1 cannon shot killed this:<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FbwWcOxDrdY/U8OYNMoL_6I/AAAAAAAADho/HlTta1wI1t8/s1600/4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FbwWcOxDrdY/U8OYNMoL_6I/AAAAAAAADho/HlTta1wI1t8/s1600/4.jpg" height="239" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Black Dragon, Manticore and beastmaster dead to 1 cannon shot</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
and the Dreadlord only had a unit of Crossbows to hide in = got the lance to the face. Lore of Life really showed its power when t8 Demis not only survived this...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-K58pT43DEjE/U8OYkRQwZyI/AAAAAAAADhw/XyP_Fqg6OJ8/s1600/5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-K58pT43DEjE/U8OYkRQwZyI/AAAAAAAADhw/XyP_Fqg6OJ8/s1600/5.jpg" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>
but killed it all (token hurricanum charge may have helped that last little part!)<br />
<br />
All in all, the Hobby Hero lived up to his name and took the tabling like a champ. he got my favourite opponent vote.<br />
<br />
<b>Result: 20-0 win</b><br />
<br />
<h3>
<b>Game 4: vs Mal skinks and cowboys</b></h3>
<br />
After a hard night Karaoke'ing I awoke to the fact I would be taking on NZ's ETC skink cloud hobby killer.<br />
<br />
Being out deployed by chaff doesn't help cannon placement so I was faced with this:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hqXeL4N5drI/U8OZtvE9AhI/AAAAAAAADh8/TkuhhIq49k0/s1600/6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hqXeL4N5drI/U8OZtvE9AhI/AAAAAAAADh8/TkuhhIq49k0/s1600/6.jpg" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>
His BSB survived 3 cannons and a Dwellers, his Old Vet survived a cannon, a skink priest failed Dwellers LOS! (ETC rules) and then passed its strength test...if I could go wrong it did. I ALMOST got my Demis to the Slann, but I ran out of turns :(. I kill chaff, Mal kills the stank, hurrricanum, and a unit of knights.<br />
<br />
<b>Result: 9-11 loss</b><br />
<br />
<h3>
<b>Game 5: vs Brian Dark Elves</b></h3>
SO what I thought was the last game of the event vs another awesome list...3 hydras, 4 RBTs, horde of witches with Cauldron and chaff! I cannoned off the peg lvl4 turn1 and then hit the chaff with hydra's looking down on me...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-P8srbHMjsEk/U8Oaoqqu7CI/AAAAAAAADiI/6ck7ArTs9p8/s1600/7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-P8srbHMjsEk/U8Oaoqqu7CI/AAAAAAAADiI/6ck7ArTs9p8/s1600/7.jpg" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>
So I pull out my ace up the sleeve tactic and cannon off 1 of the hydras that panics the other 1 off the table (mad skillz)...to add insult I then cannoned off the 3rd hydra. This game contained a classic I "know" the ETC rules, but still play real warhammer...we discussed at length how the terrain worked. I had some ruins in my deployment zone and instead of deploying my cannons in it, I deployed them right behind it...silly me. It cost me a cannon as the RBTs took very careful...unmodified aim.<br />
<br />
So once the monsters were dead I worked by way through the RBTs towards the witches. I baited them with the Stank, flanked in the demis and t6 my lance finally got there...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GgbKL8iFjfo/U8ObqX_cgSI/AAAAAAAADiU/lKJRvuGVqoY/s1600/8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GgbKL8iFjfo/U8ObqX_cgSI/AAAAAAAADiU/lKJRvuGVqoY/s1600/8.jpg" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>
Runefang and OTS captain take out the cauldron and from there it is lots of dead elves leaving only the BSB hag who died defending her banner (or however it is described in the BRB).<br />
<br />
<b>Result: 20-0 win</b><br />
<br />
<h3>
<b>Game 6: vs Pete Furry Dwarfs</b></h3>
My submarine surfaced and I was up against Pete (if this was the internetz I would talk about being on the "Top Table"...I think we were on table #5). Having given him stick all weekend about hiding behind ETC hill rules and refining the minimum sized deployment he can legally do he pulls this one on me:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jqMGzBw5dc0/U8OcftmrGeI/AAAAAAAADic/YVuzV8S24n8/s1600/9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jqMGzBw5dc0/U8OcftmrGeI/AAAAAAAADic/YVuzV8S24n8/s1600/9.jpg" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>
Now I know the Skaven book has a "life is cheap" rule of something...but this was taking it to extremes!<br />
This is the first game EVER where I have killed a whole unit of slaves (2 units in fact) in a single turn. As I waded my way though the bodies his greyseer did a runner:<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kAfk0MVkbZ8/U8OdB2s0edI/AAAAAAAADik/U2mZJBoazpc/s1600/10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kAfk0MVkbZ8/U8OdB2s0edI/AAAAAAAADik/U2mZJBoazpc/s1600/10.jpg" height="239" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">After a thorough read of the Skaven FAQ/Errata (vol 1-25 3rd ed) I can confirm there is no rule allowing me to control the bell unit once it reaches my deployment zone.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
And the only real excitement was Doomwheel vs Stank (he got the charge grrr) and Doomwheel vs vanilla knights. I made a mistake putting a last remaining knight into the flank of 1 in the hope of breaking it giving away 240pts instead of 120 from the unit that originally engaged it to let my knights and demis past unzapped.<br />
My stank stoically held on with 2 wounds until the lance arrived when it finally gave up the ghost (even I was cheering at that point...I shouldn't have passed so many 4+ as!)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-A1k0_TRYLVk/U8OeUCIHDJI/AAAAAAAADiw/LxPaohZpEX4/s1600/11.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-A1k0_TRYLVk/U8OeUCIHDJI/AAAAAAAADiw/LxPaohZpEX4/s1600/11.jpg" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
A big win was effectively written off when my lvl4 miscast t2 and lost 2 magic levels. From there I failed to cast Dwellers 3 times...21 is a hard number to roll on 5 dice with only +2 from wizard levels.<br />
<br />
In the end we added it all up and I was 92pts up (or "3 slave units" in Skaven language). Fantastic game to end it.<br />
<br />
<b>Result: 10-10 draw</b><br />
<br />
<h3>
Overall Results</h3>
Playing out a draw I was reliant on those around me not doing too well. Greg lost his game, Mal and Dan got stuck in ETC purgatory (10-10 is a win right??) but Mr Sam Whitt obviously paid Mike King handsomely as he catapulted himself into 2nd place with a casual 20-0 game 6 win.<br />
<br />
For the first time is AGES I came in top 3 with a 3rd place finish. I've never seen Pete so happy. To my surprise I also picked up Best Sports.<br />
<br />

Big thanks to Jeff for TO'ing (and killing Ryan's Chaos Lord with a Dragon Mage), the Palmy club and all my opponents/people who attended.<br />
<br />
Anywho that's me. Now I have a light box (the one advertised on <a href="http://www.thefieldsofblood.com/2014/06/review-foldio-lightbox-by-orangemonkie.html" target="_blank">fieldsofblood</a> recently) I hope to be able to do way better painting updates...now to paint stuff to update!<br />

<br />
Its been a wee while since an update, and a very long time since the Salamanders were mentioned (yes they are still kicking around).<br />
<br />
So in between buying the core of the army, having a few games and getting started on the painting a new edition dropped and all of a sudden I had to change tact. No longer was I going to be tinkering with Tigerus allies for divination/telekinis shenanigans, I have opted for pure Salamanders.<br />

Black undercoat. Directional Spray of Army Painter army green. Black wash, Warp stone glow drybrushing. repaint black parts - either drybrush or smudge runefang silver. Hashut copper on stuff. Adeptus battlegrey highlights for skin/cloth. Wash the black/silver/copper areas with nuln oil. Edge highlight with Hashut Copper. Boom!<br />
<br />
So simple but looks great (except for ipad camera on shiny table...)<br />
<br />
<h3>
Joel's authoritative take on the new edition:</h3>
I thought the internet was at its worst when this edition dropped "ahhhh the sky is falling" blaa blaa blaa. Unbound armies cannot contest objectives and are by PERMISSION ONLY. ie - they are as optional as the allied rules in 8th ed WHFB. The psychic phase can be either heavily invested in, or ignored. It is the same as before (effectively) - there is now a good chance the power wont activate. To increase activation chance = throw more dice = less is cast (WHFB language there) = meh.<br />
<br />
40k is an interesting game. Cool aesthetic, fluff etc - but the game of late had devolved into cookie cutter options and no brainers. In a game with few to no movement based tactics, complicated combat with no real incentive to do it, super sniping characters, easy to blow up vehicles, but no multi-wound weapons to deal with monsters (that are immune to low strength fire), there needed to be something done to shake it up.<br />
<br />
Enter the new targeting rules, order of fire rules and jink saves. Boom! - Either/or decisions, and positioning is important. Combat still isnt that great (in fact the 1 rule that kept it around - challenges - has been nerfed...) but has uses and your special weapon guys will now make it in!<br />
<br />
The vehicle damage chart changes have made ye ol' transports better. With better jink this has potentially made some things really good - until you see that jink is declared BEFORE rolling to hit = there is a tactic in forcing the either/or decision because even if your shooting bounces off the jink = less coming back at you (unless people are now running stripped down wave serpents with minimal shooting so they can zoom stuff onto objectives :P)<br />
<br />
<h3>
Salamander stuff</h3>
<br />
I think Salamaders are well positioned to maximise the potential impacts of the new rules. Mastercrafted Melta weapons (oooo - sternguard get mastercrafted special ammo if shot from a combi melta!) and the marine arsenal of Twinlinked Lascannons gives options.<br />
<br />
Better transports mean the real scary short range stuff can get into range quicker (and contest objectives etc). Lascannons are scary from range.<br />
<br />
<h3>
My rundown of how to up the anti with Salamanders:</h3>
<br />
<ul>
<li><b>Vulkan </b> - Rather self explanatory. Can tank (ish), ok in combat, has heavy flamer and mastercrafts melta. DONE.</li>
<li><b>Command squad with melta and apocothary in a droppod.</b> -Vulkan needs a) a posse and b) be close to the action. This option does both - oh and will wreck people's days.</li>
<li><b>droppodding Ironclad </b>- the biggest distraction EVA! Salamander fluffy and should be reasonably hard to kill. Either way t1 shooting is not aimed at your other stuff!</li>
<li><b>multiple Lasback marines with combi melta and flamer/melta</b>.<b> </b>Oh hi tl lascannons. Oh hi objective holders, oh hi versatile squads.</li>
<li><b>Combi melta, melta marines in droppod</b> - the objective capturing unit that also blows stuff up</li>
<li><b>Combimelta scouts in MMelta storm</b> - another threat that captures objectives - Vulkan makes them very good</li>
<li><b>Landspeeder typhoons</b> - only in the larger games, but effective and points efficient s8/5 shooting is nice. another good option to force jink decisions - and has the speed to get good positioning. </li>
<li><b>Gravturions</b> - best unit in the book. Range is a problem - but add on missiles and they are good hullpoint strippers/anti horde while getting into range. </li>
<li><b>Lasturions </b>- most points efficient heavy firepower in the book. 3 TL lascannon + 3 missiles for less than 300pts. This is a serious threat unit that can politely sit back and "force the decisions" on jinking units. I'm surprised these guys dont get more internetz time</li>
<li><b>Knights Errant</b> - woah! Imperial knights are now an official part of the FOC = take the melta version duh! No Tlinked from Vulkan, but still amazing!</li>
</ul>
<div>
Basically I think of list writing as adding guns. I aim for a minimum of 6 tlinked lascannons, and as much melta as possible. Attack bikes are another cheap MMelta option to consider...but look stupid!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<br />
Ok - I'm sure there is a strong argument for "adding in AEGIS defense lines", "you need to landraider redeemer up fast!", "where's your Stormraven??", "only option is to go whitescars and have unkillable chaptermaster on a bike"...but I'm purposely going down another route.<br />
<br />
Anywho that's me. On the painting table currently are more lionhelms (sigh a 3rd unit), Wildrider unit #3 and more marines.<br />
<br />

<br />
<b>Woodies update:</b> I've been busy painting away and making movement trays. In terms of "new purchases" I have only just today bought 5 Sisters of the Thorn and I have 6 more of the old school Wildriders on the way.<br />
<br />
Anywho - <b>my finished Glade Riders:</b><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zAWOQa_L7F4/U4b1TicvwuI/AAAAAAAADfI/3abAGXpRJUc/s1600/Glade+Riders.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zAWOQa_L7F4/U4b1TicvwuI/AAAAAAAADfI/3abAGXpRJUc/s1600/Glade+Riders.jpg" height="163" width="320" /></a></div>
Looking very cool and stuff. 2x5 with Hagbane arrows seems like a good idea to me (I've got my first game on Saturday vs WoC so I'll guess I'll find out...)<br />
<br />
<b>Deepwood Scouts:</b><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qzyNywtgRF0/U4b1kiAf1UI/AAAAAAAADfQ/2QVUpicFTzo/s1600/scouts.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qzyNywtgRF0/U4b1kiAf1UI/AAAAAAAADfQ/2QVUpicFTzo/s1600/scouts.jpg" height="168" width="320" /></a></div>
3x6 Scouts...a very thin 288pts when equipped with Trueflight arrows, I'm no fan of the "new" Glade Guard, especially when I have the option of deploying my shooting exactly where I need it. Scouts and Waywatchers FTW. I've now got my 20 Waywatchers ready to go...I just need to get some skirmish trays for them. I'm not convinced 2x10 Waywatchers is the best option given the price...but I can see the argument for 2x7 or 8 to keep the price down and still keep the effectiveness.<br />
<br />
<b>Mages:</b><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Op4botemar8/U4b2770qzyI/AAAAAAAADfc/j6OGAl7iDzk/s1600/mage+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Op4botemar8/U4b2770qzyI/AAAAAAAADfc/j6OGAl7iDzk/s1600/mage+1.jpg" height="320" width="268" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-o1FN78Ua7sA/U4b3BKcdb0I/AAAAAAAADfk/ZIGgczm3RfY/s1600/mage+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-o1FN78Ua7sA/U4b3BKcdb0I/AAAAAAAADfk/ZIGgczm3RfY/s1600/mage+2.jpg" height="320" width="319" /></a></div>
<br />
A new paint job for the top mage, and FINALLY got around to finishing the conversion for the other mage that I bought when Storm of Magic first came out! I'm thinking 3 Mages (1 lvl4 Heavens, 2 lvl1 beasts) gives the army the tactical flexibility to do what it needs to do (and isn't relying on 6 dicing withering so the 50+ Glade Guard can kill something). Of course my mantra is to always only use what I have, so I'll be bringing the Sisters of the Thorn into action once they are painted. Not convinced that the poorman's brolock character bus is the best idea, but I see the appeal of them.<br />
<br />
So That's that. I'll battle report up the game and hopefully I wont get smashed by t5 chariots...<br />
<br />Joelatronhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05267751235327398650noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1823097997959221213.post-13311595375278205612014-05-25T03:26:00.000-07:002014-05-25T03:27:15.281-07:00Horned Rat 2014 Battle reportsYo<br />
<br />
Weekend just been was my first ETC event...well ETC comp (including table set up) as a singles event.<br />
<br />
I decided to rock the Empire:<br />
<br />
Grand Templar Master: Runefang, Charmed Shield, Dragonbane Gem, Potion of Speed<br />
Lvl4 life: steed, Crown of Command, mr(3)<br />
BSB: steed, 1+ armour, lance, White Cloak<br />
Captain of the Empire: 1+ armour, lance, Other Trickster's Shard<br />
Lvl1 fire: steed, scroll<br />
13 Inner Circle Knights: Full Command, banner of Discipline<br />
5 Knights: Musician<br />
5 Knights: Musician<br />
Cannon<br />
Cannon<br />
4 Demigryph Knights: Musician<br />
Steam Tank<br />
Hurricanum<br />
<br />
Very exciting list. Knight Bus, Demis and Stank hold most of the points. I got the usual Pete Prediction of Death and set about disappointing him.<br />
<br />
<b>Game 1 vs Mike King's Beastmen.</b><br />
<br />
Very exciting first game due to the list.<br />
choppy lord on foot with armour and the brass cleaver<br />
Choppy Doombull<br />
Choppy BSB<br />
2 lvl2's - beasts and shadow<br />
3x5 ungor bow thingies<br />
5 million Gors with Totem of Rust<br />
2 Pumbas<br />
2 chariots<br />
5 super rallying harpies<br />
8 minotaurs: FC<br />
Gorgon (yes, you read that right)<br />
<br />
we deployed and stuff - and then Mike tells me that in ETC if a unit has ambush it has BRB Ambush = the 5 million Gors were coming up behind me...sigh<br />
<br />
Anywho I moved forward and stuff...killed a couple of minos with dwellers, cannoned stuff<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fiksMC5RvTQ/U4G0kTF1tiI/AAAAAAAADdk/rKvt-qUbpfU/s1600/photo1+(4).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fiksMC5RvTQ/U4G0kTF1tiI/AAAAAAAADdk/rKvt-qUbpfU/s1600/photo1+(4).jpg" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>
I then got lucky with t2 Dwellers picking off the Choppy Doombull lord character and the unit champ. This then drew them into the Demis who beat them up over 2 rounds of combat. Meanwhile...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vVwoH3htNOM/U4G08Q_AhqI/AAAAAAAADds/d5bsuyfIMik/s1600/photo2+(4).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vVwoH3htNOM/U4G08Q_AhqI/AAAAAAAADds/d5bsuyfIMik/s1600/photo2+(4).jpg" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>
and Amber spear picks off my Hurricanum. I turn the lance around and get charged...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QwgvldDbP9k/U4G1TERVZ5I/AAAAAAAADd0/cTmaNjWKEuo/s1600/photo3+(3).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QwgvldDbP9k/U4G1TERVZ5I/AAAAAAAADd0/cTmaNjWKEuo/s1600/photo3+(3).jpg" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>
Grandmaster and the Beastman General get stuck in an epic challenge which I win. Knights did not need to make use of their stubborn even though I had no static res and the gors were wildformed. In my turn it is rather obvious what happens and the Gors are taken off.<br />
<br />
The Gorgon meanwhile spent his time beating up a unit of knights t6 I pinned down on the bus and Runefanged it to the face.<br />
<br />
<b>Result: </b>20-0 to start the event. Dwellers and Runefang FTW.<br />
<br />
<b>Game 2 vs' Tim Joss's Dark Elves</b><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4WEznqq9Cdw/U4G2Og1FA6I/AAAAAAAADeA/4NFzI3bUuDM/s1600/photo4+(3).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4WEznqq9Cdw/U4G2Og1FA6I/AAAAAAAADeA/4NFzI3bUuDM/s1600/photo4+(3).jpg" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
2 1/2 hours of stuff running around me (and forgetting to take pics). Only time my Stank died...3 RBT's doing 3 wounds each in a single round would do that! I eventually pinned down the 25 xbow guys and runefanged them to bits (the other stuff helped too). Also picked up the RBT's and got super unlucky to not get the shades (needed a 7 to run them down from a flee...rolled a 6 with swift-striding knights sigh).<br />
<br />
<b>Result</b> 9-11 loss...the difference in not catching the shades<br />
<br />
Game 3 vs Ryan Lister's WoC<br />
<br />
Another interesting list that was going to cause me problems...<br />
lvl4 tzeentch on disc with the defensive stuff<br />
unkillable BSB on dmount<br />
Babysitter exhalted on dmount<br />
block of slaanesh warriors<br />
2 slaanesh chariots<br />
3 units of vanguarding doggies<br />
8 Trollololololololols<br />
4 skullcrushers hellcannon<br />
<br />
I sat back, killed the babysitter with cannons and braced myself for impact...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rb8Foczb1ks/U4G4InDnl4I/AAAAAAAADeM/qftnSWA7FVM/s1600/photo1+(5).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rb8Foczb1ks/U4G4InDnl4I/AAAAAAAADeM/qftnSWA7FVM/s1600/photo1+(5).jpg" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And the lance formation meant I was stopped from helping. I was in the flank, but could not wheel past the cannon off to its right. Meant I had to swift reform into a "normal" bus and wear another round of vomit on the stank. That awkward turn of waiting was the turn the Skullcrushers (1 had been cannoned off) charged my Demis (who had the hurricanum nearby). I take 1 wound from the riders and give 5 wounds in return and shrug of the mounts. They break and I fail to run down. repeat this THREE MORE TIMES before I eventually catch them.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RXCj3qFrSeI/U4G5PRlxUsI/AAAAAAAADeY/DHRTISvHN9Y/s1600/photo2+(5).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RXCj3qFrSeI/U4G5PRlxUsI/AAAAAAAADeY/DHRTISvHN9Y/s1600/photo2+(5).jpg" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>
So I finally get my supporting flank charge on the trolls, casually dweller off the general (like a boss) and smash up the now ldship 2 trolls and run them down. Big game swing there as my bus re-lances and goes after the hellcannon. I would say I Runefanged it off...except the grandmaster was too busy runfanging the crew leaving the heavy work to the captains and other knights. Hurricanum also saw combat charging and killing some doggies!<br />
<br />
<b>Result: </b>18-2 win. End of day 1 I'm on a comfortable 47pts<br />
<br />
<b>Game 4 vs Hugh Dixon's Dwarfs</b><br />
<br />
First game vs the new Dwarf book and the list is as exciting as I expected it to be.<br />
<br />
2 runesmiths with spelleaters<br />
BSB wiht the 4+ward, all dwarf things within 12 get 5+ ward vs shooting and magic missiles<br />
Horde of Warriors with GW<br />
20 Quarellers with GW<br />
big block of hammers with the "give stubborn to units within 12" banner<br />
2 gyros<br />
2 cannons - runed up<br />
Organgun - runed up<br />
5 rangers<br />
<br />
we deploy and I opt to deploy the knights normally because I knew I needed to maximise attacks to break through the stubborn.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ioPCl0A09G4/U4G7hUuqrhI/AAAAAAAADek/_t9Bm8HvV38/s1600/photo3+(4).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ioPCl0A09G4/U4G7hUuqrhI/AAAAAAAADek/_t9Bm8HvV38/s1600/photo3+(4).jpg" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>
I move up using the building to shield my approach. The "cannon-off" was a fluff fest. My cannons died to gyros, but I took out a dwarf cannon in the process! My target was the crossbows (stank - distracted running over a gyro and misfiring for a bit) and the warriors (bus and demis).<br />
<br />
Rule 1 of fighting dwarfs: dont let the artillery kill too much (used terrain to mask approach)<br />
Rule 2 of fighting dwarfs: don't do it on their terms...<br />
<br />
So I set up the bus to take the charge that would draw them away from the stubborn banner.Warriors charge, I win the combat, Demis flank in and I wreak face - enough to get them out of the stubborn banner range. They break and run...11 inches and pop through the Hammerers sigh. 0vps for me (cost me the OTS captain). Meanwhile I get the Stank into the crossbows (well, I miss by 1 inch and they charge me). In flank the Demis who kill them all... BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!!!<br />
<br />
<b>Result:</b> 10-10 thanks to super fleeing warriors.<br />
<br />
<b>Game 5 vs Pete Dunn's Skaven</b><br />
<br />
Same table as the last 2 games...This game was very much mine to pick off the sneaky 11-9/12-8 and some really annoying bad luck cost me the win.<br />
<br />
1) I was sloppy with the BSB placement at deployment because nothing could see my stuff...except the indirect firing rat-a-pult that kills 2 knights and the unit flees of the board...<br />
2) IF dwellers on bell and Strength test passed (grrr)<br />
3) 3rd cannon hit and the seer finally dies and bell takes 2 wounds<br />
4) sticking my nose out to the dweller (or not) the seer gave the magic missile battery/doomrocket a chance on the bus. hopeless armoursaves and wardsaves later I need to re-grow 1 knight to get my unit above 25%. 3 magic phases of 5 dicing re-growth and I couldnt do it :( Oddly with ETC comp I was wanting fewer dice...instead Pete got 6+ dispel dice for the last 3 turns grrr.<br />
<br />
Though the warplightning cannon did explode (allowing me to stick my nose out...) and I picked off the Hellpit with fireballs and cannons (yay!).<br />
<br />
The Skaven "advance" t6<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-p6McxWPRIN4/U4HBP6qJyAI/AAAAAAAADew/lMCoH0kIdoE/s1600/photo4+(4).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-p6McxWPRIN4/U4HBP6qJyAI/AAAAAAAADew/lMCoH0kIdoE/s1600/photo4+(4).jpg" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>
My (successful) "anti gutter runner" tactic<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NZdiK_97eAA/U4HBiAGtqKI/AAAAAAAADe4/b6Mxa-nOXcQ/s1600/photo5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NZdiK_97eAA/U4HBiAGtqKI/AAAAAAAADe4/b6Mxa-nOXcQ/s1600/photo5.jpg" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<b>Result:</b> 10-10<br />
<br />
<b>Overall</b><br />
<br />
Overall I ended up on 67 battle points and got a 30 for my paint score (need to flock my movement trays and drybrush the black metal with something to give it some shape and get better at convincing TO's that my carry tray is actually a display board).<br />
<br />
This of course gave me 4th place...0.03 overall points short of Tim in 3rd. Sigh. As usual looking over the games there were easy places for the extra points:<br />
1) catching the shades<br />
2) catching the dwarf warriors<br />
3) not sticking my nose out and placing my BSB to cover everything.<br />
<br />
As usual a well run fun event. ETC isn't that bad...though always playing battleline does get a little repetitive and some of the rule changes are annoying but not fun destroying. <br />
<br />
Oh well...first solo event of 2014 so I'm happy with 4th. Next event is Panzershriek where I get to have some more ETC games. Hopefully I'll have my Woodies all ready for that :D<br />
<br />Joelatronhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05267751235327398650noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1823097997959221213.post-49499116218216678882014-05-07T05:40:00.001-07:002014-05-07T05:45:26.084-07:00Unpacking the Woodies - stocktake and reviewHey hey hey,<br />
<br />
So back from an Awesome Joel-con where I came 5th despite only losing 1 game (random lore meant I rolled shadow vs High Elves...) - heck I even beat my own army using Lizards (first time ever) and beat Nick Hoen (meaning next year's NZTC team name will be "The team with the guy who beat Nick Hoen by 186vps"). Event was ranked purely on the amount of VP's you claimed each game. VERY COOL way of doing it - especially for small events. Really changes the dynamic of the game as you have to keep pushing for points.<br />
<br />
<b>Best Moment:</b> rolling Death game 1 vs Gregs Ogres. T2 Purple Sun his bus...BSB + 6 guts die. Panic test failed = remaining 2 and lvl4flee back through the vortex and all die! Chikka boom!<br />
<br />
<b>My list for the Joel-Con </b><br />
Lvl4 (random lore)<br />
Archlector: HA, GW, 4+ ward, skavenslayer helm<br />
BSB: 2+ armoursave, warriorbane<br />
2x engineer<br />
Captasus with sword of might and dragonhelm<br />
34 Halberds: FC - 6 archer detach<br />
2x5 knights: M<br />
4 Demis: M, SB<br />
Stank<br />
Helblaster<br />
Helblaster<br />
2000ish points<br />
<br />
<h2>
<span style="font-size: x-large;"><b>Anywho: Wood Elves </b></span></h2>
<br />
My first army started in the deep dark days of 2006. I have periodically used them throughout 8th - at least once every 3 months. I took them to an event, lent them out for 2 events (wrote the lists) and almost took them to the Warhammer Achievements event that was cancelled due to numbers (sadly).<br />
<br />
What this means is that my Woodie army has been kept "up to date" and some of the painting has been refreshed...and some of it hasn't!<br />
<br />
So my review of the Woodie book is by way of a Stock Take of my army:<br />
<br />
<b>Mounted Mage and BSB</b><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5-8WB2mXakA/U2ods2sNPXI/AAAAAAAADbU/dEwPhzUjmvg/s1600/1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5-8WB2mXakA/U2ods2sNPXI/AAAAAAAADbU/dEwPhzUjmvg/s1600/1.jpg" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
By some chance of luck back in 7th I used to run 2 lvl2's on steeds and would deepwood sphere "bomb" people for fun. Now they have been dug out and will make a very nice mounted lvl4 mage and BSB - which seem to be the "obvious" way to run them given the bunker options.<br />
<br />
<b>Painting:</b> needs re-basing and slight modification to new paint scheme<br />
<br />
<b>Waywatchers and Waystalkers</b><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dw5jXmQPqjU/U2oeRUtr-DI/AAAAAAAADbc/tAdJi6mSC4k/s1600/2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dw5jXmQPqjU/U2oeRUtr-DI/AAAAAAAADbc/tAdJi6mSC4k/s1600/2.jpg" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-aiprZtZBw_w/U2oeXjz6fEI/AAAAAAAADbk/5llns9GrV10/s1600/3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-aiprZtZBw_w/U2oeXjz6fEI/AAAAAAAADbk/5llns9GrV10/s1600/3.jpg" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MND0izTCNFI/U2oec5CtXmI/AAAAAAAADbs/06G4PUD28NE/s1600/8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MND0izTCNFI/U2oec5CtXmI/AAAAAAAADbs/06G4PUD28NE/s1600/8.jpg" height="181" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Can't see myself ever fielding less than 2x10 TBH. Digging these guys out I have 10 painted to current standards and can field another 12 (including a rank filler). The best thing about the last armybook update was the wealth of character models they released. New Armybook = look at all the Waystalkers! (rules query - if scouted they HAVE to be deployed by themselves due to the order (unless meeting engagement or dawn attack)???<br />
<br />
<b>Painting:</b> 10 done, 10 to be updated, Waystalkers to be updated.<br />
<br />
<b>Glade Riders</b><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pYgCfnnbNdw/U2ofP6j206I/AAAAAAAADb4/ZZRze0ndvsA/s1600/4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pYgCfnnbNdw/U2ofP6j206I/AAAAAAAADb4/ZZRze0ndvsA/s1600/4.jpg" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The awkward stepchild of the old book. I used them when I first started playing (due to them coming in the battalion box set) and by some stroke of luck the Achievements event meant that fielding 2x5 fo these guys with full command was a really good option - meaning I have 10 ready to go! I dont love ambush, but in the context of the army I think 2x5 with poison is a solid investment.<br />
<br />
<b>Painting:</b> removing the obvious command means only 2 need to be updated.<br />
<br />
<b>Eagle Dude and warhawks</b><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3NU5ZRIAwcw/U2of5q1hVWI/AAAAAAAADcA/4qi-JaQYdHw/s1600/5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3NU5ZRIAwcw/U2of5q1hVWI/AAAAAAAADcA/4qi-JaQYdHw/s1600/5.jpg" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-e_0jAfq8hKA/U2of_aV-nlI/AAAAAAAADcI/yt-ISGZ7Mu8/s1600/6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-e_0jAfq8hKA/U2of_aV-nlI/AAAAAAAADcI/yt-ISGZ7Mu8/s1600/6.jpg" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Win the award for "survived storage the worst". Not touched since 7th. I used to run 4, but ripped the rider off one to make an eagle rider for a list I wrote for Vermintide 2012. Both options I think are "better" than the old book - warhawks especially...however the lack of dropping "something"/fly over attack really annoys me. KB on the charge is cool...but not 135pts thrown away on a chance cool.<br />
<br />
<b>Painting:</b> warhawks to be updated if I ever field them.<br />
<br />
<b>Drycha and Orion</b><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xgiT6MJRoiY/U2ogyT4AVPI/AAAAAAAADcU/kamzlclU76A/s1600/7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xgiT6MJRoiY/U2ogyT4AVPI/AAAAAAAADcU/kamzlclU76A/s1600/7.jpg" height="217" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Yeah they are cool I guess. I really like Orion's new rules...not his cost! Dumbest thing about them is that I have the Ariel model around here and she failed to get new rules...sexism if you ask me.<br />
<br />
<b>Painting: </b>Drycha to be updated, Orion needs his crown glued back on and Ariel will continue to be a shelf ornament fairy.<br />
<br />
<b>DRAGON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!</b><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QzP9soYiS4w/U2ohSmOHdiI/AAAAAAAADcc/ZrOVpqG7egg/s1600/9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QzP9soYiS4w/U2ohSmOHdiI/AAAAAAAADcc/ZrOVpqG7egg/s1600/9.jpg" height="265" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I LOVE DRAGONS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously I do. Forest dragon is STILL officially on 50mmx50mm = awesome = I'll be buying the Black Dragon (mounting on 50x50mm) so I can run DOUBLE DRAGON! OMG that alone made the armybook delay worth the wait.<br />
<br />
<b>Painting: </b>Sisters need to be assembled and painted...black dragon needs to be purchased and painted ASAP. Current dragon needs re-basing.<br />
<br />
<b>Eternal Guard</b><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gCU8Q9o7HG4/U2oh5HIXaQI/AAAAAAAADck/kBKP8eSqnrA/s1600/10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gCU8Q9o7HG4/U2oh5HIXaQI/AAAAAAAADck/kBKP8eSqnrA/s1600/10.jpg" height="279" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
HA MY LONG TERM INVESTMENT IN 40 OF THESE GUYS PAID OFF...kinda. I absolutely love the new models...but not as much as the old metal ones. I think they are the best core choice in the new book because they offer that something that nothing else does - an anvil + they are the only unit that really takes advantage of the Forest Stalker rule. Avoidance armies only work if there is something for the opponent to focus on. It used to be the Treemen (HA!). Ws5, ASF i5 ldship 9 stubborn anvil that strikes in extra rank, re-rolling 1's to wound (poison due to venom thicket) with 5+ as for 12ppm on a core choice = amazing. 30 with full command are looking like a staple for me.<br />
<br />
<b>Painting:</b> haven't really seen the table since 7th = need re-basing and the cloaks changed to new scheme + glue standard bearer back together!<br />
<br />
<b>Wardancers/Shadowdancer</b><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-O0rh7GdjNA8/U2ojn43hCuI/AAAAAAAADcw/XqNc9FBI-C8/s1600/13.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-O0rh7GdjNA8/U2ojn43hCuI/AAAAAAAADcw/XqNc9FBI-C8/s1600/13.jpg" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
New breath of life for these guys. s3 sucks, but remove rank bonus and ASF KB is awesome! Really "synergise" with the Eternal Guard anvil in the venom thicket "tactic"...Shadowdancer or separate unit? I prefer the unit due to cost, but I think the Shadowdancer in the Eternal Guard/Rangers could catch some people out.<br />
<br />
<b>Painting:</b> Got lots of use in 8th. Only 4 models to update<br />
<br />
<b>Wildriders</b><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1gUHPWGsdo8/U2okaLJsF-I/AAAAAAAADc4/XeVIvMJ9IGg/s1600/14.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1gUHPWGsdo8/U2okaLJsF-I/AAAAAAAADc4/XeVIvMJ9IGg/s1600/14.jpg" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The best hammer in the new book. 3x5 with banners seems like a given. Frenzy is meh...but keep near the BSB blaa blaa blaa.<br />
<br />
<b>Painting: </b>I've got 2 unassembled horses + the headless one in gladerider pics + the 2 wildrider horse heads without bodies + some Orion hounds as rank filler I think I've easily got 3x5 with banners! CHIKKA BOOM!<br />
<br />
<b>GladeGuard</b><br />
(no pic cos I got millions and couldnt be bothered setting them up)<br />
<br />
I personally think these guys lost the 2nd most in the book. The arrows are cool, but s3 with move and shoot penalties = either trueflight or your mobile avoidance gunline just became a static very expensive gunline. 600pts gets you 30-38 archers with the new arrows in 3 units with musos and the odd banner. That is not much...s3 will be their downfall. Personally I would just rely on the Scouts, Waywatchers, HODA, and Glade Riders to do the shooting.<br />
<br />
<b>Painting:</b> Skirmish movement trays need to be made up<br />
<br />
<b>Other Characters and stuff</b><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3p1Y5WOMyEU/U2ol6XSm_DI/AAAAAAAADdE/rGMFgZu6rrw/s1600/12.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3p1Y5WOMyEU/U2ol6XSm_DI/AAAAAAAADdE/rGMFgZu6rrw/s1600/12.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Branchwraiths got a huge boost. Cheaper and gained lvl1 life built in. 1 of these guys in Rangers or Eternal guard and you can buff them up nice...if you want to. Obviously that also means chucking in a GW welding guy and the BSB, and a lvl4 and a shadowdancer for luck = DEATHSTAR!!!!! ok - not an "every game" idea, but I am keen to try branchwraith + Eternal Guard.<br />
<br />
The tokens are from the Warhammer Achievements event which required bringing some for a mission. Now they will be very convenient High/Dark magic tokens.<br />
<br />
<b>Painting:</b> finish basing the tokens.<br />
<br />
<b>Forest Spirits</b><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--Yit7kGzN0Q/U2omvxsghrI/AAAAAAAADdM/8ZDZhMV_R60/s1600/11.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--Yit7kGzN0Q/U2omvxsghrI/AAAAAAAADdM/8ZDZhMV_R60/s1600/11.jpg" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Yup...straight into storage.<br />
<br />
<b>STUFF I DONT OWN...yet</b><br />
<br />
<b>Sisters of Twilight:</b> the Brolock apology. I will be looking to get 2 boxes of these ladies so I can use them as either my caster for DOUBLE DRAGON lists, or character bunkers for "normal lists". This unit will need to have glitter on it somewhere.<br />
<br />
<b>Eagles:</b> Ok - I have eagles...but I want to get the Hobbit Eagles. Nothing has changed. 1 or 2 of these guys = awesome.<br />
<br />
<b>Rangers: </b>Not going to bother. In the book purely because they needed a double kit for the Eternal Guard.<br />
<br />
<br />
<b>Conclusion: This book is the "Apology" book. </b><br />
<br />
Yay new book! I'm aiming for Panzershrek for these guys (if I can get and paint up some Sisters in time)...but my real goal is to get a Double Dragon list rocking for an event just because.<br />
<br />
Personally I would have preferred old forest Spirits and old Glade Guard with every other new change...but alas Matt Ward needed to apologise for the High Elves and Dark Elves. Still a good book...I just dont see it changing the meta other than people taking magic missiles with their Empire armies...oh wait banishment council...<br />
<br />

<br />
So ANZAC weekend I'll be in Australia catching up with the Shirts Off crew, meaning a huge excuse for the first ever Joel-con! (I wanted it to be named "Joel-Fest").<br />
<br />
4 games, 2000pts where the comp is "a chance to try out the UK masters lists...but don't be a d*ck" (Aussie vernacular for "try to self comp, but aim for the tough end")<br />
<br />
Since I have to get my army through customs I'm naturally taking the men of the Empire and based my list on the Empire list that pulled out of the UK masters at the last minute.<br />
<br />
Arch Lector "Otto": ha, gw, 4+ ward, helm of the skavenslayer<br />
Lvl4 light<br />
Lvl1 light<br />
Lvl1 light<br />
Bsb: fullplate, enchanted shield, warriorbane<br />
Captain of the empire: Pegasus, fullplate, shield, lance, dragon helm<br />
33 halberds: fc<br />
7 archer detach<br />
5 knights: m<br />
5 knights: m<br />
4 demigryph knights: m, sb<br />
Steam tank<br />
Steam tank<br />
1999pts<br />
<br />
So the obvious list is to double banishment up and go pure mounted... But I compromised there for some extra movement and some foot troopers + no arcane magic items to shut down magic phases???dark elves don't like net of amynok right?<br />
<br />
Now I'm expecting to spend all 4 games being ran around by yawn-fest dark elves, shot apart by high elves, and rail roaded...however I think my list is offensive enough (and in no way a gun line given the shooting limitations of stanks) to hopefully go up the guts of someone willing to put a block of something down for me to aim at!<br />
<br />
In case the list is a bit beyond the pale given the panel comp fetish Aussies seem to have I'll also bring over a helblaster, engineer and a cannon to swap out 1 Mage and a stank. This would put the lvl 4 on heavens and the lvl1 on lore of fire (maybe). Spare 10pts could become something...maybe a banner on the Demi's...<br />
<br />
Any who that's it for now. Good Friday will see an awesome 40k event so expect pics and reports!<br />
<br />

<br />
Still on the iPad sigh. So after all these years and models painted I have FINALLY got around to painting up the model that got me into the high elves. I believe he is the old metal silverhelm unit champ, but in books he's a very Alexander-esque Calvary prince. It was the look of this model that gave me the inspiration to paint my elves up like I have.<br />
<br />
Anywho here he is: in the future he can be found on the battlefield leading a glorious charge with his Giant's Blade held high ready to destroy anything that gets in his way!<br />

<br />
So computer died tonight (yay...) so my first official blog post from my iPad, so apologies if it is weirdly formatted or something.<br />
<br />
I present my Shadow Warriors:<br />

Sadly I wont be attending, so it was an exercise in writing Swedish lists in record time. <div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b><span style="font-size: large;">Game 1: Empire Swedish Comp Score 12.something</span></b></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b><span style="font-size: large;">My list:</span></b> </div>
<div>
Grand Master (general): Runefang, Charmed Shield</div>
<div>
Arch Lector: War Alter, 4+ ward, HA, GW, shield</div>
<div>
BSB: barded steed, , Fullplate, GW, Dhelm, Dawnstone, OTS</div>
<div>
lvl2 Light</div>
<div>
lvl2 Light: scroll of shielding</div>
<div>
Engineer</div>
<div>
Witch Hunter: Brace of Pistols</div>
<div>
5 Knights</div>
<div>
5 Knights</div>
<div>
8 Inner Circle Knights: FC</div>
<div>
34 Halberds: FC</div>
<div>
7 archers detachment</div>
<div>
4 Demigryphs</div>
<div>
Steam Tank</div>
<div>
Helblaster</div>
<div>
<br />Very exciting Swedish Compy looking list I whipped up around midnight. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b><span style="font-size: large;">Ryan's list:</span></b> was pretty cool. choppy characters, block of warriors, chariots, some chaff, hellcannnon, skullcrushers, token magic etc etc. Swedish Comp really makes WoC players think outside the square...Empire players just have to rely on fewer warmachines. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
We rolled up a mission (Meeting Engagement) and I deployed first. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-56t8of7EyJc/UzZ-HCwkBII/AAAAAAAADV8/tK3hP6i-Us4/s1600/1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-56t8of7EyJc/UzZ-HCwkBII/AAAAAAAADV8/tK3hP6i-Us4/s1600/1.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
I was lucky and only my engineer slept in (in pic next to helblaster)..Ryan had his BSB, and the Warriors sleep in.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I went first and did that traditional Empire thing...clogged up my own battleline and moved the combat stuff slightly backwards to see what Ryan would do. HOWEVER I did do something risky! my Witch Hunter and his posse marched up...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-S2v71l-jGuo/UzZ-u95HrdI/AAAAAAAADWE/veVmyV0U2e8/s1600/2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-S2v71l-jGuo/UzZ-u95HrdI/AAAAAAAADWE/veVmyV0U2e8/s1600/2.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
Went to Pwn the Chaos Lord on a Disk (played in the film by a Daemon Prince) with some sweet Killing blow goodness. Shots were fired...I rolled to wound...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-v3i3YdgL2ko/UzZ_Cxb6gSI/AAAAAAAADWM/dVpoVXTwoEs/s1600/3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-v3i3YdgL2ko/UzZ_Cxb6gSI/AAAAAAAADWM/dVpoVXTwoEs/s1600/3.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
...Almost! Oh well, that would have been a very nervous ward save to start the game. In other news my Stank rolled a 1 to wound a Skull Crusher, and s5 banishment on the Chaos Lord rolled 12 hits and did a single wound (I THINK that is about right vs t5, 1+ as, 3+ ward...)...either way a nice middle finger salute to the Chaos Lord of Darkness pretending to be a Daemon Prince. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So in return my Archers tools some doggies to the flank so Mr. Witch Hunter got his combat on, lost on SCres and reformed to face. In other news some Hellstriders failed an easy charge on some knights...and so did a chariot SKILLZ. Mr "Lost a wound already" Chaos Lord landed right in front of my Demis as the bait while the rest of his army rolled up to rush my flank without the Helblaster and Stank. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So of course I charged Mr Chaos Lord and threw up a couple of buffs.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VEO7TpWQGvQ/UzaAYSkSmrI/AAAAAAAADWY/ee3-0w_WGJk/s1600/5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VEO7TpWQGvQ/UzaAYSkSmrI/AAAAAAAADWY/ee3-0w_WGJk/s1600/5.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
and promptly put him on 1 wound. In the fluff-fest in the middle of the table...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Ymz21R3CCHo/UzaAkOqvp1I/AAAAAAAADWg/R25X4C4O5wc/s1600/4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Ymz21R3CCHo/UzaAkOqvp1I/AAAAAAAADWg/R25X4C4O5wc/s1600/4.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
yeah - super annoying as the daemonic mount lvl2 and 2nd unit of doggies were in position to combo charge in support. </div>
<div>
In other news my knights didn't fail their charge on the Hellstriders (HA!)...instead I passed all my armour saves and failed all my rolls to hit to win by a charge!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-r_BzFvjSg1Q/UzaA8RRxVhI/AAAAAAAADWo/cGJRQ7Szw48/s1600/6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-r_BzFvjSg1Q/UzaA8RRxVhI/AAAAAAAADWo/cGJRQ7Szw48/s1600/6.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
They fled 12 and I chased 10, which I thought was good effort.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I really should mention it for completeness sake. My ICK bus failed a charged on a disk Exhalted (needed a 10) by 1 inch and shuffled forward a little bit AND the stank misfired and did nothing :)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Fluff-fest gets interesting with the addition of doggies and lvl2 = Witch Hunter steps up to challenge! Queue lots of missed rolls to hit and stuff (I think over the rounds of combat I got a single wound through).</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
However that wasn't the main attraction any more...over on my left flank I had entered the Danger Zone.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zmMIX3YY3wg/UzaB0cX2pGI/AAAAAAAADW0/uGj-CH70HnM/s1600/7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zmMIX3YY3wg/UzaB0cX2pGI/AAAAAAAADW0/uGj-CH70HnM/s1600/7.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
The mighty WoC army in all its Glory was raining down the pain on my Humble Demis (with ws10, i10, and -1 to be bit) and Inner Circle Knight "Bus". Dice were rolled and stuff and the end result...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EEgwf5CtVi0/UzaCawlg3cI/AAAAAAAADXE/AcARGCbKEVM/s1600/9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EEgwf5CtVi0/UzaCawlg3cI/AAAAAAAADXE/AcARGCbKEVM/s1600/9.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
Yeah - whose the greatest combat army now huh? Mr scary Chaos Lord of death...DEAD, and the Skull Crushers are running. Disc Exhalted was lucky with BSB enabled successful passing of ldship 5 break test (oh yeah - s4 with hatred pwns...especially when the Grand Master hits only once with the Runefang)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So what's a boy to do? Well I did some sneaky mathematics stuff and got my Waralter all up in their faces and got the 6 inch prayer radius to benefit both the Demis and the ICKs. Lots of dice later, IFing and losing Banishment and stuff I got phas off and gave my combat units a 5+ ward (and then realised my OTS BSB was right next to my Grand Master who was winding up to gank the Exhalted in a challenge - who needs a normal ward anyway?) So Combat happend and...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3-4VCGmCs1c/UzaDyNzgMpI/AAAAAAAADXQ/IpbC-isM71U/s1600/10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3-4VCGmCs1c/UzaDyNzgMpI/AAAAAAAADXQ/IpbC-isM71U/s1600/10.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
Mr BSB broke from combat (having provided the re-roll allow the 9 remaining warriors to stick around) and the Grand Master Runefanged the Exhalted TO THE FACE. That was a little tense...3 hits and 3 failed wards.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
In other news my Stank failed the supporting 12 inch charge to get my archers and Witch Hunter out of trouble. Naturally that was the turn they all died :(</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
In the next round Demis vs Warriors went my way with a nice run down. Ryan moved his 2 chariots up to get my Helblaster working on the assumption that 5 knights will lose vs his chariot. Well...in my turn he was proven almost right! my Helbaster shot for the first time in the game and blew apart 1 of the chariots and the knights charged, passed all their armour saves like a boss, promptly fluffed all their attacks and won with the charge SCres for the run down!</div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_H_idTYN5S4/UzaE5jjbEyI/AAAAAAAADXc/4Zb7HTJz4p8/s1600/11.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_H_idTYN5S4/UzaE5jjbEyI/AAAAAAAADXc/4Zb7HTJz4p8/s1600/11.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Knights - winning with the charge only since forever!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div>
So with a Hellcannon, lvl2 and 1 unit of doggies left Ryan tied to hide (failed all march tests) and the Hellcannon exploded :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TOzB_O2VD44/UzaHPUt7A2I/AAAAAAAADXo/Nh1TuYvfKNg/s1600/12.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TOzB_O2VD44/UzaHPUt7A2I/AAAAAAAADXo/Nh1TuYvfKNg/s1600/12.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
1 banishment (only casting from the waralter all game), and helblaster later the battlefield was property of the EMPIRE!!!!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b>Result:</b> Big win to the Empire (or more correctly their armourers...I was rolling those saves like a boss!)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b><span style="font-size: large;">GAME 2: High Elves Swedish Comp Score 8.something</span></b> (or 11 if seaguard "bows" dont count towards the cap...)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Off for lunch and beer and then back into round 2. For this game I took a very, very, similar list to Ben Mitchell's US Masters list...did the USA masters comp pack exclude seaguard from the shot cap because that was the difference between a score of 11 (as advertised on Raffazza) and 8.something????</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b><span style="font-size: large;">Anywho the list:</span></b></div>
<div>
lvl4 shadow: 4+ ward (general)</div>
<div>
BSB: Armour of Destiny, GW</div>
<div>
Noble on Eagle: Dragon Armour, Enchanted Shield, Starlance</div>

28 SeaGuard; FC (super broken in Swedish...gave me -41)</div>

6 Dragon Princes: FC - Banner of World Dragon (fluffy!)</div>
<div>
Lion Chariot</div>
<div>
Lion Chariot</div>
<div>
5 Sisters of Avelorn (their first game awwww)</div>
<div>
RBT</div>
<div>
RBT</div>
<div>
RBT</div>
<div>
Eagle</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
And when rolling for spells I rolled Mindrazor 3 times! This game was shaping up to be Class of Phil Wu 2014 <b><span style="font-size: x-large;">MMMMMMMMMIIIIIIINNNNDRAAAAAAAAAZZZZZZZZORRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!</span> </b>(still havn't forgotten Phil...still haven't forgotten...)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Anywho we rolled up Dawn Attack and I (once again) got the pleasure of deploying first (rather boringly). Ryan (with same list) was stuck with the infamous "split forces".</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-y40ACYp54mY/UzaHrQa28yI/AAAAAAAADXw/hKwFzYZl3o4/s1600/1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-y40ACYp54mY/UzaHrQa28yI/AAAAAAAADXw/hKwFzYZl3o4/s1600/1.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
Sorry as this is Wellington where in the Hills you lose the sun at like 9am these pics are a little dark.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I got the first turn (naturally) and shuffled forward a bit and stuff. I chucked a -3 Movement miasma on the Hellstriders to limit their charge options and shot them down to 2. -2 Toughness on a chariot and it was down to 1 wound. In return Ryan shuffled forward, except for his Hellstriders who made the crazy charge ( needed an 11) despite my best efforts and took out a bolt thrower.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Q0kWHnr1PzU/UzaIbjaEToI/AAAAAAAADYA/q9FvMQG3xKE/s1600/2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Q0kWHnr1PzU/UzaIbjaEToI/AAAAAAAADYA/q9FvMQG3xKE/s1600/2.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
And his Exhalted thought he would try his luck vs my Seaguard</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Wx7jKZcG7PY/UzaIpneXYlI/AAAAAAAADYE/zyFAawrj2B4/s1600/3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Wx7jKZcG7PY/UzaIpneXYlI/AAAAAAAADYE/zyFAawrj2B4/s1600/3.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
And the Hellcannon (for the 2nd time in a row) splatted the Eagle noble t1...sigh. Nice authoritative first turn for the WoC. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
In my turn the phoenix guard and it's lion chariot shuffle forward. Doggies and a chariot flee my charges. Shooting does 1 wound to Mr Chaos Lord and my Mage skillfully IF's <b><span style="font-size: x-large;">MINDRAZOR</span></b> and Exhalted on disc is no more! 2 Phoenix Guard die for that. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3pq52iDh-Jc/UzaJbyH5FOI/AAAAAAAADYQ/nP8wGW0fsEs/s1600/5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3pq52iDh-Jc/UzaJbyH5FOI/AAAAAAAADYQ/nP8wGW0fsEs/s1600/5.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
SO what's a WoC to do? well Hellcannon goes crazy and almost charges the Dragon Princes who are now in not the best situation...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qlGSMEuJ7H8/UzaJ8nKjiEI/AAAAAAAADYY/VXuandKpPQE/s1600/6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qlGSMEuJ7H8/UzaJ8nKjiEI/AAAAAAAADYY/VXuandKpPQE/s1600/6.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
And Ryan pulls off the beardiest of beardiest rally rolls EVER.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-K2QN3EXrcnU/UzaKKMUwWiI/AAAAAAAADYg/9o_kMUUx6oU/s1600/7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-K2QN3EXrcnU/UzaKKMUwWiI/AAAAAAAADYg/9o_kMUUx6oU/s1600/7.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
Rallies the chariot first (BIG smile on my face...) and then the doggies rally (grrrr). Mr Chaos Lord charges reavers (flee) and redirects into my bolt thrower that found itself on the front lines of a very, very, very stacked flank! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
In my turn I throw caution to the wind and charge my Phoenix Guard and a lionchariot into the Skullcrushers. Dragon Princes (reluctantly) charge the Hellcannon and manage 2 wounds(!) before the fluff-fest set in. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Anywho - I pick up my dice and IF...<span style="font-size: x-large;"><b>MINDRAZOR!!!!!</b></span> for the 2nd turn in a row. 2 wounds on the Skullcrushers, 1 wound on the chariot and 3 dead Phoenix Guard and the following happens...</div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-b3R90-q3jGU/UzaLiKeivwI/AAAAAAAADYs/fyWlb_YO_jw/s1600/8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-b3R90-q3jGU/UzaLiKeivwI/AAAAAAAADYs/fyWlb_YO_jw/s1600/8.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">1 whole skullcrusher removed with impact hits</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dZVz3aOnw1I/UzaLsUgHh2I/AAAAAAAADY0/bv2tkZisgUQ/s1600/9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dZVz3aOnw1I/UzaLsUgHh2I/AAAAAAAADY0/bv2tkZisgUQ/s1600/9.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">and 1 whole unit removed with mindrazor</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div>
Oh -and on top of that the eagle blocked off the warriors so they couldn't kill the sisters who finished off the chariot like the pros they are. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Reasonably hard to see in the next pic, but Mr Chaos Lord charges the Eagle and the Warriors reform to take the Phoenix Guard to the face. The lvl2 fire mage on Daemonic Mount is rocking in the font row...the sisters look on from the safety of their tower.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1oiNI78eZW0/UzaMW27XcfI/AAAAAAAADY8/TxrgGM05FZM/s1600/10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1oiNI78eZW0/UzaMW27XcfI/AAAAAAAADY8/TxrgGM05FZM/s1600/10.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
And Mr Chaos Lord fails to Kill the Eagle who holds! and Mr lvl2 decides to Cascade, kill 8 warriors and fall down a hole flame caging the Phoenix Guard...life is cruel. Mr BSB also charges into the Seaguard who were closing in on the action to lend their support (still yet to shoot their -41 comp hit bows for anything other than very ineffective stand and shoots). Champ dies and the BSB gets +1 Ballistic skill!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Meanwhile the rallied chariots and doggies moved back into the action.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CVOQdnxNRNc/UzaNHVFMkSI/AAAAAAAADZE/XQz0gGzMfVA/s1600/11.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CVOQdnxNRNc/UzaNHVFMkSI/AAAAAAAADZE/XQz0gGzMfVA/s1600/11.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
In my Turn I play it cool. Reavers charge and kill the doggies sure, why not. Phoenix Guard charge the warriors (meh - 5 die to flame cage) and then I play the magic phase (crazy 11 dice) cool...</div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-A2YWlOQaStc/UzaNfV2yRcI/AAAAAAAADZM/R1pSzXHTEmw/s1600/12.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-A2YWlOQaStc/UzaNfV2yRcI/AAAAAAAADZM/R1pSzXHTEmw/s1600/12.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Say Hello to t1, s3 Warriors...<br /></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div>
and If'ed <span style="font-size: x-large;"><b>MINDRAZOR</b></span> for the 3rd time (a few more things die)..I'm such a pro at warhammer...</div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-03QtMQL9_o0/UzaNzjwdnxI/AAAAAAAADZU/thqxe0f9U44/s1600/13.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-03QtMQL9_o0/UzaNzjwdnxI/AAAAAAAADZU/thqxe0f9U44/s1600/13.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Ryan's head drop and loud sigh was priceless</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
And something odd happened...the BSB DIDN'T DIE???????????? He WON THE COMBAT...and I held phew...stupid no re-rolls to hit due to high I and 3+ ward. Still 1 wound down...2 more to go. The WoC however felt the sharp end of my (rather diminished) Phoenix Guard's sticks and were run down...oh and the mighty Mr Chaos Lord finally killed the eagle :)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
However all was not good in the hood. Mr Chariot charges into support the Hellcannon and kills 2 knights (I hold) and Mr Chaos Lord charges into the flank of the Phoenix Guard...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8OCjpbTijYo/UzaPN3CRFRI/AAAAAAAADZg/ldwC8x_CsrY/s1600/14.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8OCjpbTijYo/UzaPN3CRFRI/AAAAAAAADZg/ldwC8x_CsrY/s1600/14.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
and the Champ dies as I play for time...doesn't help that I also fail my reform to face roll...oh Mr BSB finally dies to <b><span style="font-size: x-large;">MINDRAZOR</span></b>'ed seaguard...2nd round of combat's the charm.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
In my turn the chariot kills the Dragon Prince unit champ (not before taking a wound) and finds itself un-engaged and free to move in its turn. Vs Mr Chaos Lord things go very, very, very, very, very, very, very wrong. I get <b><span style="font-size: x-large;">MINDRAZOR</span></b> off...but character dies and I fail my steadfast test and I'm run down...Mr Chaos Lord nets himself 1029pts including all the bonuses :(</div>
<div>
BIG swing in the game right there!</div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YYl-kD7oTwU/UzaQPg2c1PI/AAAAAAAADZs/q3gKn99UhWo/s1600/15.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YYl-kD7oTwU/UzaQPg2c1PI/AAAAAAAADZs/q3gKn99UhWo/s1600/15.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">1029pts for the Blood God...yet still not granted Daemon Princeness despite appearances</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div>
MR Chaos Lord then goes into the flank of the Reavers (who were picking on the last unit of doggies) and takes their points over 2 rounds of combat. The doggies run off the board thanks to Sister induced panic test :D However I finally get the set up I was waitiing for...Lion Chariot on Slaanesh Chariot!!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zCe5bbVrMHk/UzaQ01RRIPI/AAAAAAAADZ0/kydNR27zxt8/s1600/16.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zCe5bbVrMHk/UzaQ01RRIPI/AAAAAAAADZ0/kydNR27zxt8/s1600/16.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
We draw the first round of combat (both super fluff) but in the final round of combat of the game my Whitelions and their Lions rip the chariot a new one! 120pts well spent!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b>Result: </b>13-7 to the High Elves! MVP goes to my lvl4 and Mr Chaos Lord. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It was great to see the Lion Chariots (played in the film by Tiranoc chariots) in action and not sucking. Noice little support charges, and taking out a chariot at the end = awesome!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So that's my Swedish experience for the year out of the way....2 wins with 2 very different lists. Phil Wu would be proud of my 4 <b><span style="font-size: x-large;">MINDRAZORS</span></b> in a row - 3 of the IF. BOOM! </div>

<br />
Finally after goodness knows how long I finally bought myself a box of the new Shadow Warriors/Sisters of Avelorn - it's as if I've been playing the High Elves with one arm tied behind my back. I decided to assemble the box as 5 Shadow Warriors, and 5 Sisters of Avelorn. Given their importance - the sisters were first on the painting table.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8lJgUXVLFJ8/UzPnRih-HhI/AAAAAAAADVc/JH7pVYtDaeo/s1600/sisters.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8lJgUXVLFJ8/UzPnRih-HhI/AAAAAAAADVc/JH7pVYtDaeo/s1600/sisters.jpg" height="138" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
No surprises on the paint scheme...except for the leather. I swapped my paint scheme to Steel Legion Drab washed with Agrax Earthshade and then re-layered with Steel Legion Drab. Dheneb stone would be the final highlight colour that I'll probably get around to doing.<br />
<br />
Now to finish the final few Silverhelms and get the Shadow Warriors painted.<br />
<br />
I've got 2 games on Saturday vs Ryan's WoC. I'll be running 2 Swedish 11 lists - Awesome Slaanesh themed Daemons, and one of the High Elf lists from the USA Masters.<br />
<br />
I can't attend Runefang this year (sad face) so this will be my "Swedish event". I'll post up some battle reports of the fluff-fest.Joelatronhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05267751235327398650noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1823097997959221213.post-85257441237687892822014-03-20T16:18:00.001-07:002014-03-20T16:18:20.734-07:00Hobby Update stuff and thingsHi all,<br />
<br />
Long break since the last post. Since NZTC I havn't played much (any???) Warhammer, so I'm itching for a game!<br />
<br />
I have however managed to get in my first game of Killteam (the unofficial fan version - rules can be found <a href="http://heralds-of-ruin.blogspot.co.nz/p/kill-team-rules.html">here</a>) and it is AWESOME. All the best bits of Mordheim + actual armour, and sci-fi goodness makes it a game I shall be playing a lot more of.<br />
<br />
For those of you who care here is my Kill Team Roster (I havn't started a campaign yet or anything, so no character names or upgrades etc)<br />
<br />
<b>Salamander Kill Team</b><br />
Veteran Sergeant 24<br />
<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>storm shield 15<br />
<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>Lightning Claw 15<br />
<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>special issue ammo 5<br />
<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>(mastercrafted boltgun) free<br />
<br />
5 Tactical Marines 70<br />
<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>Missile Launcher 15<br />
5 Tactical Marines 70<br />
<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>Meltagun 10<br />
<br />
Sternguard Veteran 22<br />
246<br />
<br />
Tanky commander, and very shooty. Special issue ammo is the best (gets hot! is not so much...hence mastercrafted boltgun).<br />
<br />
Speaking of Salamanders...I have got it all assembled and based (yay!) now to get myself the correct colour sprays and get painting. Naturally being at that stage = gotta get more stuff so I've got a Librarian and a box of Centurions to assemble...it never ends! I had a game the other day vs Glen's inquisition + 2 dreadknight list. Lots of fun, and definitely helped tighten my list down to what I actually need to be able to do.<br />
<br />
<b>WARHAMMER</b><br />
<b>Righty </b> - so on to the important stuff. I have been painting lots of "things" but not doing much finishing off. My main focus has been getting my High Elves to a competitive level. Looking over the lists submitted for NZTC has been really useful here. Basically Dragons = good, mounted mages = good (very good with death), speed = good, core shooting = bad, rare shooting = awesome. I'll still be sticking with a unit of Whitelions with Lolz banner because something needs to be able to hold a watchtower.<br />
<br />
I FINALLY got myself a box of Shadow Warriors/Sisters of Avelorn. I'll be doing them up as 5 of each because I love both kits and I dont see myself using more than 5 of each - even in big games.<br />
<br />
Painting wise - I've finished the next rank of my Silverhelms (played in the movie by the old Dragon Princes) so I now Have a unit of 10 painted!<br />

<br />
So the New Zealand Team Champs 2014 have been and gone. Massive success, lots of fun, and everything went smoothly. Thanks to Pete and Peter for organising/To'ing and stuff.<br />
<br />
This year I was captain of Stone Falls Massive (as in I was the one who sent and received the official emails and got to fill in the results sheet).<br />
<br />
My team consisted of Ryan with his Warriors, Glen with a very-newly-painted Daemons army (and the cause of my radio silence as I have been playing lots of practice games getting him up to scratch!) and Will with his Ogres. I used my Empire.<br />
<br />
<b>My list:</b><br />
Arch Lector "Otto": GW, HA, Skavenslayer helm, 4+ ward, potion of Foolishness<br />
lvl4: light, powerstone<br />
lvl1: light, scroll<br />
lvl1: light, ruby ring<br />
BSB: Fullplate, enchanted shield, warriorbane<br />
41 Halberds: FC<br />
5 archer detach<br />
7 archer detach<br />
5 knights: M<br />
5 knights: M<br />
Cannon<br />
4 Demigryph Knights: M, SB-flame banner<br />
4 Demigryph Knights: M<br />
Steam Tank<br />
Steam Tank<br />
<br />
Basically a Joel variation on the light council with more emphasis on combat than shooting stuff off the board (though plenty of that too!)<br />
<br />
<b>Round 1: vs DILFS</b><br />
Very exciting 1st round picking up where Team O.M.E.N. left off last year. This year however it wasn't to be a repeat of last time (ie they smashed us last round on their way to the podium).<br />
<br />
With the match ups I came up vs Ant's Brets. My notes simply said "bad match up - I will lose" so I was going in with a positive mindset! The game went rather well for me given the mis-match. Turn 2 looked like this:<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5Wnw1ugeaEo/UxQr9liPxwI/AAAAAAAADTA/szTOxazC9hQ/s1600/P1017759.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5Wnw1ugeaEo/UxQr9liPxwI/AAAAAAAADTA/szTOxazC9hQ/s1600/P1017759.jpg" height="179" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I heard a rumour that Bret lances are most effective when they successfully charge</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
and then everything that was a bret promptly failed their charge buying me a chance to not get 0-20.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5CK6hQ7--pI/UxQsU9RplnI/AAAAAAAADTI/lHQ3F6Z-VUA/s1600/P1017758.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5CK6hQ7--pI/UxQsU9RplnI/AAAAAAAADTI/lHQ3F6Z-VUA/s1600/P1017758.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Ant playing fast and loose with the unusual Bret formations to take advantage of the rail roading FAQ</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
However I screwed up a game winning move when my Halberd bus failed a support charge (needed a 5...rolled a 4 sigh) meaning I didnt break his BSB's unit and gloriously run it down and instead wore HKB in the flank....<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-j3MH5ejYi38/UxQsxtkNatI/AAAAAAAADTQ/jkDt_sKx9As/s1600/P1017760.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-j3MH5ejYi38/UxQsxtkNatI/AAAAAAAADTQ/jkDt_sKx9As/s1600/P1017760.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Note: halberds are missing from the pic because they failed the 1 charge they attempted all weekend...</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I almost ground out the BSB's unit (stupid 5+ ward saves!), and the Bret general finally remembered how to roll a 6 to wound on the very last turn of the game turning a draw into a 9-11 loss.<br />
<br />
Overall we lost the round, but only just as we picked up 2 small wins, and had one bigger loss (Glenx2 blamed the dice!).<br />
<br />
<b>Round 2: vs HAM</b><br />
Into the next round and we found ourselves vs the self described "nice guy + the death of warhammer fun" lists. I got myself a match up with Phil Wu who I had never met before. We had a great chit chat, lots of fun and stuff. The game was down as a "big win" for me and was looking that way until someone (looking at you Mr lvl4 on shadow) decided to IF Mindrazor 3 times in a row allowing Phil to delete 3 units while I consolidated my army and picked up the flank I was rushing. Didn't help that my lvl4 went down the hole in a massive brain fart moment where I banished the world dragon carrying Dragon Princes (killed 1 though and in my defence it is 99.9999999999999% of the time on the whitelions...)<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iCpjl-aX5uY/UxQuARROUGI/AAAAAAAADTc/t2bC2oMXbl0/s1600/P1017762.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iCpjl-aX5uY/UxQuARROUGI/AAAAAAAADTc/t2bC2oMXbl0/s1600/P1017762.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Add Mindrazor for max effectiveness</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
End result was a 7-13 loss, however we picked up a win for the round<br />
<br />
<b>Round 3: vs Beauty and the Beasts</b><br />
After 2 rounds we were where we wanted to be...we hadn't picked up a big round win, so we were submarining a wee bit, but not too much! We had picked this round as a round we needed to do well in..and it worked out we got the perfect match ups (Ogres vs light council, Slannesh WoC vs Throgg WoC, DoC vs Dark Elves, Me vs Sam's Epidermus)<br />
<br />
My plan for winning this game revolved around playing with the fear of banishment letting me pick wounds and points with the 4 other magic missiles I had in my deck and not give any nurgle unit cheap wounds. To this end I even fled a unit of knights off the board (failed a march test so couldnt get out of the way) to avoid giving obsidian blade carrying Nurgle herald some free tally tokens! The banishment trick worked and when I finally got around to casting it at the GUO it only had 2 wounds left thanks to Mr Ruby Ring and co. The tally only made it to the first benefit bottom turn 5 when the beasts charged my halberds in a building...but in return they got magic missiled off, so a nice trade off.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gI-dE51fKTI/UxQxBzsmB3I/AAAAAAAADTo/dmkDJPf3oJc/s1600/P1017766.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gI-dE51fKTI/UxQxBzsmB3I/AAAAAAAADTo/dmkDJPf3oJc/s1600/P1017766.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I'm building up a nice collection of these "solo beast holds up entire army" pics</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
End result was 13-7 to me and as a team we maxed out on the points :D<br />
<br />
<b>Round 4: vs Panel Comp</b><br />
So 8am start = the Aussies thought it was 4am and I forgot to take any pics. In this round we were completely foiled (as I suspect all NZ teams were) by the skaven list because a) no bell b) some special character called "Qweek" c) the glorious ginger beard. Our first off the rank anti-Skaven list was Will's Ogres on the assumption that "normal" skaven lists cant withstand a gutmagic supported gutstar + support smashing through the lines...however death frenzied s5 stormvermin with 2 assassins can do so just fine apparently...our first 0-20 loss of the event.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KXqnXUFT7rQ/UxQ1YhutdXI/AAAAAAAADT0/BHgnMsXPV64/s1600/300px-Queek.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KXqnXUFT7rQ/UxQ1YhutdXI/AAAAAAAADT0/BHgnMsXPV64/s1600/300px-Queek.jpg" height="320" width="260" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Trust an Australian to pull an under-arm tactic and not take the standard Skaven list</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I was pared with the WoC of Tim...basically 3x 1+ as flying tzeench guys with 3/4+ wards and s7. They basically flew around killing stanks (only game I lost both). My vanilla knights almost lost me the game with a fluffed combo charge on crushers...however with careful use of magic (only game my lvl4 didn't have banishment) I managed to wear down the tzeench warriors to gave me a game winning vanilla knight charge where 1 wound = win combat (assume my 1+ holds up vs s4) and break their steadfast for a run down...yup bottom turn 6 (with liberal application of timewarp and pha's)! That pulled the game back to a 10-10 when had my earlier combo charge worked I could have been in a much stronger position. Overall we lost the round 38-42 so not a bad effort considering the "Queek"<br />
<br />
<br />
<b>Round 5: vs Shirts Off </b><br />
Very exciting we must have found ourselves high enough up the table to be playing Shirts Off (eventual 2nd place takers!). We managed to win the match up process here as Shirts Off failed to use the "fit to 1 page" feature in Excel before printing the lists...ie they thought I only had 1 steam tank. However it was great because I found myself against a familiar foe.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gd7aBU-uqTM/UxQ4tafHDkI/AAAAAAAADUA/pm98r6nINsU/s1600/P1017767.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gd7aBU-uqTM/UxQ4tafHDkI/AAAAAAAADUA/pm98r6nINsU/s1600/P1017767.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Sadly Ronald Reagan couldn't make the journey across the ditch</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Ben's list was rocking 7(!) warmachines vs my humble 1 (cough and 2 stanks cough) + chaff + stuff. I got first turn and took off 2 warmachines. OnG first turn = IF foot that goes 7 times and only scatters once...though the lvl4 did go down the hole and turn the "trukk" into a hatchback. I then suffered losing my final wound on my demigryph unit that wore the foot to gobbo chariot short bow shots... However I now had the magic advantage = 5 magic missiles FTW. My halberds also saw combat! Their building got charged by Savage Orc Big un's...but it was late enough in the game that they simply hopped out the other side to safely. Ben's remaining lvl1 with headbutt earned his points back with an IF headbutt killing my lvl4 and I had to chuck a lvl1 under the bus turn 6.<br />
<br />
Also for the 2nd time in the history of 8th ed stank use I succeeded in killing a Steam Tank all by myself! 3 misfires in a row + a cannon misfire to finish the job...sigh. To be fair I shot the cannon because I needed to kill the mangler!<br />
<br />
End result 10-10...to be fiercely re-matched at Joel-Fest 2014 me thinks! The other games were an unlucky small loss for Ryan vs Mal (did everything right...Hellcannon decided to explode). Will got purple sunned to the face by the 6-dice-monkey renaissance man James and our resident DoC The Great un-Glen One" gave Sam's WoC a lesson in warhammer :P We lost the round but still came away with 30+ points, so not a pants off situation...cos that would have been awkward.<br />
<br />
<b>Round 6: vs Plastic Krak</b><br />
last round and before the games started I clarified that neither us nor them could podium with a max points win. This was to ensure the last round of the event was nice relaxed affair for all involved.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rCMsfeOUZeo/UxQ9jcmMcsI/AAAAAAAADUU/JtW1y_xIOlE/s1600/P1017768.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rCMsfeOUZeo/UxQ9jcmMcsI/AAAAAAAADUU/JtW1y_xIOlE/s1600/P1017768.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Ryan took the relaxed game vibe a little too far and moved his Hellcannon into Hagen's deployment zone</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
I was very "fortunate" for my last game of the event to also be my official last game vs the old Dwarf book (nice to know it was a conscious last game). Neil was rocking an Anvil (destined for the shelf), longbeard rangers with scouting BSB and challenge rune Thane, 2x25 miners, 5 miners, gyro, organ gun, 2 cannons and 20 warriors.<br />
<br />
Neil got 1st turn and moved up to get the challenge charge thing on Demis. I felt really bad for Neil because from there on the game became an exercise in my 1+ armour unreasonably bouncing all his s5 and 6 to win the day. He picked up a unit of knights and my cannon and had 1 unit of miners, gyro and anvil on 2 wounds left. Though in these situations all you can do is laugh and remind Neil that this is overdue payback for Panzershrek :P<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Dm4i1AqZd2Q/UxQ9pQH9s8I/AAAAAAAADUY/pCVxwUH2-U0/s1600/P1017769.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Dm4i1AqZd2Q/UxQ9pQH9s8I/AAAAAAAADUY/pCVxwUH2-U0/s1600/P1017769.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">My notes on this game said "it comes from behind"</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gFcvOs1Mxzc/UxQ-TXooGVI/AAAAAAAADUg/QenN3phWo_U/s1600/P1017770.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gFcvOs1Mxzc/UxQ-TXooGVI/AAAAAAAADUg/QenN3phWo_U/s1600/P1017770.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I didn't quite achieve my goal of running the anvil over with a stank</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
So a 20-0 to finish off the event. Glen lost his game vs Tim Joss with the GUO dying with the very last handbow shot of the game! Ryan won, and Will got himself a 20-0 to make up for the rest of the day!<br />
<br />
<b>Overall:</b><br />
Adding it all up we came in 5th! When excluding the Aussie teams we came in 3rd (or 2.5 if you count expats as Aussies). We played 3 of the teams above us and were 1 points shy of 4th place (queue a massive list of "what ifs").<br />
<br />
<b>Stats:</b><br />
We maxed in points once, and never gave away max points. We averaged 44pts/round which gave us a team average of 11pts/player/game which was a huge achievement (our goal was 10pts/player/game).<br />
<br />
<b>Thoughts on our team:</b><br />
I think we got the balance right with our lists. If time was not an issue we would have dropped the Ogres for something else. Not having the 2nd Ironblaster has hurt them so much - especially as we opted for gut magic for survivability over heavens for punch (I think I'm one of the few people who would prefer the meta to have to accommodate double ironblaster/double skillcannon builds).<br />
<br />
Though having the Ogres made our match up process rather easy as we had an army we needed to protect = made picking on the weak link in their team easy as we encouraged them to play for the Ogre points (with mixed results) with most match ups putting them up first. <br />
<br />
I can't really speak for myself, but I thought the rest of my team played in a very friendly pro-warhammer way and frame of mind. Glen reminded Tim he had a handbow left to shoot bottom turn 6 = dead GUO and Ryan offered the Empire Player in Panel Comp a cannon shot at his Daemon Prince after the game because Ryan had mistakenly told him the charmed shield hadn't been removed = dead Daemon Prince. Both instances could have been resolved differently in other circumstances, but it is great to know that my team were above that sort of play and we still achieved better than we thought we would.<br />
<br />
Anywho that's it from me. I'll stop the radio silence and get some painting pics up pronto!Joelatronhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05267751235327398650noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1823097997959221213.post-577701535117518122014-01-30T00:42:00.002-08:002014-01-30T00:42:35.968-08:00High Elf painting updateYo yo yo <div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Slow progress is slow. With all the gaming (and gardening) I havn't had much chance to paint. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
However in saying that I have finished a few things:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b><span style="font-size: large;">Alith Anar</span></b></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0v1kNDRJmx4/UuoNRDhL3nI/AAAAAAAADSQ/Bjv8Ti32Ycg/s1600/Alith+Alar.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0v1kNDRJmx4/UuoNRDhL3nI/AAAAAAAADSQ/Bjv8Ti32Ycg/s1600/Alith+Alar.jpg" height="320" width="278" /></a></div>
<div>
Of the special characters, this guy is my favourite. Cool fluff, fun rules and a completely useless cool looking sword. This guy is also the first finished metal model in my High Elf force.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b><span style="font-size: large;">Old Dragon Princes</span></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div>
Eagle Eyed observers of the last couple of battle reports will have spotted these guys in various states of unfinished. I have finally finished the front rank! These guys will be used as Silverhelms if running a bus - which I have been recently. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Anywho that's all that's finished so far. There's still more on the way...I just have to get around to basing it and other boring things like that. I'm picking up my Salamander Forgeworld stuff on Saturday, so I can start devoting some time to getting them assembled. </div>

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8eMnHIZKdb0/UuYL2-ntiMI/AAAAAAAADQ8/lo9YFrP_0FU/s1600/2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8eMnHIZKdb0/UuYL2-ntiMI/AAAAAAAADQ8/lo9YFrP_0FU/s1600/2.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Now, this first point is really crucial - make sure you fail to go first even with your +1. THis is particularly important as the Hellcannon needs to rolls a "hit" and take out a rank of your knight bus early on.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XS04PMT2gzc/UuYNbU-zNjI/AAAAAAAADRI/Iwe-JfMYkvo/s1600/3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XS04PMT2gzc/UuYNbU-zNjI/AAAAAAAADRI/Iwe-JfMYkvo/s1600/3.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
In return move your monsters up into offensive positions to draw in the charge. Your knight bus will need to fail a charge and stumble forward 9 inches as well. 22 short-range shots from the archers at the hellsteed "bus" are to only hit 8 times and the RBT's are to miss as well allowing the lvl4 the luxury of survival/escape.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-AOebvzKbn7Y/UuYOTmJvpRI/AAAAAAAADRQ/2OJb0JThZjo/s1600/4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-AOebvzKbn7Y/UuYOTmJvpRI/AAAAAAAADRQ/2OJb0JThZjo/s1600/4.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
Draw the charges in by fleeing with your Helmbus 1 inch less than you need to avoid being pushed off the table (rolled a 5 for flee...). Now that you've given up a heap of points draw the chariots into a frostie and take 2 wounds on the Stardragon from spirit leech.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-RgRvL0GQYXA/UuYO0OQGMqI/AAAAAAAADRY/ttda_BH4Nh8/s1600/5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-RgRvL0GQYXA/UuYO0OQGMqI/AAAAAAAADRY/ttda_BH4Nh8/s1600/5.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
Fail all your wardsaves and since you are taking leaderships on 3d6 make sure break and run having failing to do enough wounds/taking too many (given they are hitting on 4's, wounding on 6's...)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DV0zgtfsgvI/UuYPMoaRuPI/AAAAAAAADRg/d0P97VJu1xk/s1600/6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DV0zgtfsgvI/UuYPMoaRuPI/AAAAAAAADRg/d0P97VJu1xk/s1600/6.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
Oh yeah - and have a Hellcannon squash your Stardragon. Of course having also failed to roll a 6 to charge the swordmasters in the first turn...instead take a charge to the face<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-K6uxMxvncz4/UuYPeR4G9-I/AAAAAAAADRo/rMFJoxL1h-c/s1600/7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-K6uxMxvncz4/UuYPeR4G9-I/AAAAAAAADRo/rMFJoxL1h-c/s1600/7.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
fluff all your attacks, break and run.<br />
<br />
In your turn, clean up the chariots with the remaining monsters and IF Chain Lightning (taking a wound) and although it jumps 6 times do a collective 5 wounds to stuff. Survive the next turn (thank goodness) and then pounce for the kill.<br />
<br />
30 Spears into to the flank of the trolls and 1 griffon and frostie in the front of Archoen's bunker, and a griffon in the flank. IF with the lvl4 and kill half your spears naturally<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-e7qFEiq1ahA/UuYQQHs7YvI/AAAAAAAADRw/WocSTprT_tI/s1600/8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-e7qFEiq1ahA/UuYQQHs7YvI/AAAAAAAADRw/WocSTprT_tI/s1600/8.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
and dont forget to fail to do any wounds, loose the lvl4 (even with iceshard and curse of the midnight moon up) and win by a musician!<br />
<br />
Smash face with the monsters - having locked Archoen in combat with a griffon and dropping him to s4 = not that scary!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sWDjagFaW2E/UuYQo4rLXrI/AAAAAAAADR4/VyKT2oal1BU/s1600/9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sWDjagFaW2E/UuYQo4rLXrI/AAAAAAAADR4/VyKT2oal1BU/s1600/9.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
But of course, of the 3 wounds that make it through to the Frostie, make sure to fail all your saves (no wards passed this game...).<br />
<br />
Your opponent at this stage will commit more points to the combat (making it worth 1500+pts) and fail to add the skullcrushers (would have make contact with a griffon with 1 wound left) to keep the game interesting. At this stage your confidence will be very high because you know that there are enough warriors left for you to give yourself a big combat win.<br />
<br />
Oh wait - 6 dice Choir later...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-62k3gt9ruaQ/UuYRQKP3vcI/AAAAAAAADSA/wx0KNeSPMoI/s1600/10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-62k3gt9ruaQ/UuYRQKP3vcI/AAAAAAAADSA/wx0KNeSPMoI/s1600/10.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Nope...Chuck Tesla.<br />
<br />
And there you have it! you're prince is still alive in your only "combat" unit left (archers) who + the RBT's won you the right flank...shame about the left and middle! Given the Crushers had a great line to run down the archers we called the game.<br />
<br />
<b>Summary:</b><br />
A crazy game where dice deserted me in all the wrong ways. Ryan said he didn't win the game...my army lost it!<br />
<br />
I didn't think the shorter table would have made much of a difference given that at Ruination the games all ended up playing like it was 6x4 anyway. HOWEVER, the extra 2 feet of length meant deployment was more than just simply lining the units up. This cramping of the battleline gave the WoC in this game a huge advantage because there were no gaps in their line for me to exploit.<br />
<br />
So there you have it.<br />
<br />

<br />
Righty.<br />
<br />
<b>History:</b> back in 7th edition my friend Alex played demons in all their filthy glory. Sure he would argue that he went outside the norm by taking tzeentch heralds with loremaster beasts on chariots (for the magical charge + unit strength 5), but at the end of the day it was just filthy demons bullying my Woodies and Empire. Fast forward to the present and after a period of self exile Alex is back and rather energised by the new Demon book that as boring as it can be (nurgle yawn) it has some exiting elements to it...for me to seek revenge on...<br />
<br />
<b>His list: </b><br />
lvl2 Tzeentch herald: Metal<br />
4x10 Horrors: M, SB<br />
6 Beasts<br />
2x1 Beast<br />
2x1 Seeker Chariots<br />
5 Seekers<br />
2x5 Nurgle Furies<br />
5 Ambushing Hounds<br />
2x1 Skillcannon<br />
3 Plague Drones: SB<br />
Tzeentch Burning Chariot<br />
<br />
<b>My list:</b><br />
Prince on Stardragon: Heavy Armour, Lioncloak, Charmed Shield, Golden Crown, Sword of Might, Other Tricksters Shard<br />
Dragon Mage lvl2: Dragon Armour, Enchanted Shield, Ring of Fury (or whatever it is now called)<br />
BSB: Barded Steed, Heavy Armour, shield, lance, Banner of the World Dragon<br />
14 Silverhelms: FC (shields)<br />
2x5 Reavors<br />
10 Archers: M, SB<br />
Frostheart Phoenix<br />
4x1 RBT<br />
Eagle with Shredding Talons<br />
<br />
An interesting matchup. MSU with nurgle anvil and chariots (heck even Slaanesh stuff!) vs monstermash High Elves with the banner of broken. Alex rolled up Gateway, Final Transmutation, and lots of blue fire.<br />
<br />
We rolled up Meeting Engagement. Alex deployed first (1 skillcannon off board). I ended up with 1 RBT and the Dragon Mage off the board.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OVRC-jgN6PA/UuIGCjAsAKI/AAAAAAAADOg/gtJUCxO2FwI/s1600/1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OVRC-jgN6PA/UuIGCjAsAKI/AAAAAAAADOg/gtJUCxO2FwI/s1600/1.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Alex kindly points out the source of his frustration (and my stubborn dragons) </td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Yup unpainted minis - I have only JUST started painting up the Silverhelms (ie the old metal Dragon Princes) and Alex is making good progress on his Demons - especially for someone who dislikes painting. Yellow with purple for nice vibrant colours - looking forward to seeing it completed.<br />
<br />
The game started in it's own eventful way. Seeker chariot into some Reavors, Plague Drones into Frostie - Venom thickett granting one of the drones poison (oh joy!) Furies see to be there to stop my Silverhelms getting into the beasts and anchoring them on the seeker chariot for counter charge.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-abHIDUMXx2c/UuIHWNVMmlI/AAAAAAAADOo/er212-2TMr0/s1600/2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-abHIDUMXx2c/UuIHWNVMmlI/AAAAAAAADOo/er212-2TMr0/s1600/2.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
Frostie held the combat (boom!) and the burning chariot decided to flame template the Eagle. 1 wound followed by failed toughness test for another 3 wounds = poor eagle didnt even get to have a turn the big bully :( Reavors didn't fair that much better. The skillcannon that started off the board came on and exploded (sympathy = 0) and the other 1 did a single wound to the Stardragon and removed the charmed shield. Final Transmutation dispelled with a skilful double 6 roll.<br />
<br />
In return the silverhelms rolled the furies and charged into the seeker chariot (that had taken a wound from a fireball). Stardragon went straight into the beasts and flaming sword was dispelled...however the ring of fury did take out the seekers. 25pts well spent! (though they did only have a 6+ ward) Frostie continued to be awesome and pick wounds. Stardragon took out a beast and won the combat. RBT's were their usual useless selves and picked wounds from the odd chariot.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-f2mJmVK2oeQ/UuIIi1wuO2I/AAAAAAAADOw/KjT_SFHe3xs/s1600/3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-f2mJmVK2oeQ/UuIIi1wuO2I/AAAAAAAADOw/KjT_SFHe3xs/s1600/3.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
So chariots: Nothing like picking on the weak?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--1dlPyInvMI/UuIIzQ0CW9I/AAAAAAAADO4/XfRdMCQoF8g/s1600/4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--1dlPyInvMI/UuIIzQ0CW9I/AAAAAAAADO4/XfRdMCQoF8g/s1600/4.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
Or the hounds of Khorne picking on the even weaker?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OuSanLPfXdE/UuIJAuG-6rI/AAAAAAAADPA/RZtn-mVLAw0/s1600/5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OuSanLPfXdE/UuIJAuG-6rI/AAAAAAAADPA/RZtn-mVLAw0/s1600/5.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
Or even worse using the super broken warpfire to kill my Dragonmage?<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vDea1HMHYUc/UuIJLp0ttGI/AAAAAAAADPI/tAHoKB3_Z7g/s1600/6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vDea1HMHYUc/UuIJLp0ttGI/AAAAAAAADPI/tAHoKB3_Z7g/s1600/6.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Yes, that is the mythical forest dragon model, and yes I have yet to pass a warpfire Toughness test...</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
All that was ok because in my turn 2 I did this:<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-lnBa4oa5vH0/UuIJnF-rTMI/AAAAAAAADPQ/mabQgGBYO6o/s1600/7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-lnBa4oa5vH0/UuIJnF-rTMI/AAAAAAAADPQ/mabQgGBYO6o/s1600/7.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">HA! who needs magic?</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
(Stardragon and Beasts continue to duke it out. Stardragon slowly loosing wounds. I think the prince has died at this point)<br />
<br />
The next unit of furies comes along to die (sent back to the warp?) for the greater good<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CbRaW_zVqNU/UuIJ-PQGFBI/AAAAAAAADPY/1oKWUpg_WGs/s1600/8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CbRaW_zVqNU/UuIJ-PQGFBI/AAAAAAAADPY/1oKWUpg_WGs/s1600/8.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And the bullies keep on bullying.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-S23YJ-YMLdM/UuIKSE7gZ5I/AAAAAAAADPg/Q6w_XautLyk/s1600/9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-S23YJ-YMLdM/UuIKSE7gZ5I/AAAAAAAADPg/Q6w_XautLyk/s1600/9.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Now that my monsters are free from the drones they are hungry for more nurgle...or maybe a little full from the last snack and they both fail the charge to support the stardragon. The Silverhelms reform to wear a cannonshot down the flank and stop the lurking solo beast from getting a sneaky flank charge and ruining my plans.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-masiOQb21Lg/UuILKZef4KI/AAAAAAAADPo/zKNxMTsPiBQ/s1600/10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-masiOQb21Lg/UuILKZef4KI/AAAAAAAADPo/zKNxMTsPiBQ/s1600/10.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Now the Horrors think it is finally safe to flank the stardragon...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-M0VlneQAz3g/UuILWOQCZ3I/AAAAAAAADPw/S6_0Ups9qig/s1600/11.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-M0VlneQAz3g/UuILWOQCZ3I/AAAAAAAADPw/S6_0Ups9qig/s1600/11.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
...and the final 2 wounds fall. I really should have kept a tally of exactly how many poison attacks it took to kill mr Stardragon and Prince...but it would be over 50.<br />
<br />
Oh well, 700ishvps down right there...time for dessert...Frozen Horrors, with a Beast flavoured night cap from the overrun.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tMmT-cMqLJw/UuIUfh_s_DI/AAAAAAAADQA/7GmNN62dLP8/s1600/12.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tMmT-cMqLJw/UuIUfh_s_DI/AAAAAAAADQA/7GmNN62dLP8/s1600/12.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
Skillcannon down the flank does nothing to the Silverhelms...gotta love a 2+ ward.<br />
<br />
In charge the Silverhelms to take out the solo beast. BSB stuck in challenge and the Beast survives on a single wound (who gave them 4 wounds each seriously?). In charge the support...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Tls-6vJgDOE/UuIVl_a0kuI/AAAAAAAADQI/D-7fRyJigvA/s1600/13.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Tls-6vJgDOE/UuIVl_a0kuI/AAAAAAAADQI/D-7fRyJigvA/s1600/13.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PZtJ-zeq7ac/UuIVv5xwzPI/AAAAAAAADQQ/FDDjEncRrTs/s1600/14.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PZtJ-zeq7ac/UuIVv5xwzPI/AAAAAAAADQQ/FDDjEncRrTs/s1600/14.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
Lots of fluffed attacks and stuff...yeah. a snake eyes magic phase kills enough for the silverhelms to break free with static combat res...and wear an IF'ed final Transmutation. The beasts roll a snake eyed break test to get back 1 of the beasts that had been killed...but the cavalry finally rush in (bottom turn 6) to save the day with healthy amounts of Static Combat Res!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CTdIPTC_jRw/UuIWkIzjqFI/AAAAAAAADQY/qmvvFB7GERc/s1600/15.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CTdIPTC_jRw/UuIWkIzjqFI/AAAAAAAADQY/qmvvFB7GERc/s1600/15.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<b>End Result: </b> All I had left alive was the BSB, silverhelms, Sun Dragon and Frostie, but it was enough to win the game comfortably. My back line was (once again) ruthlessly exposed by Alex's list and my Chaff were simply free points since I had control of the board thanks to the flying monsters.<br />
<br />
<b>The list:</b> VERY fun to play. It felt a little small and I know it would suck at the Watch Tower mission and have some very nervous Blood and Glory games, but that shouldn't detract from the fact that it is a flying (stubborn) monster list of cool.<br />
<br />
Next game I have promised to not that the Banner of the World Dragon...I wonder if I can successfully work lvl4 on High Magic + Annointed in a big unit of Swordmasters...<br />
<br />
